About this listen
Hatred, lies, and murder. America's bloodiest county seat battle happened in Wichita County, Kansas in 1887 as two fledgling towns raced for a winner-takes-all election. Told through the eyes of competing newspaper editors, But the Blood reveals that there are always two sides to every story. But who was in the right? How far would each side go to win? Would Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, and Doc Holliday show up for the fight? And, in the end, what would victory cost?

Story
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Story
When tomorrow is harder than today, how will you endure? Peter preached boldly in one moment and cursed cowardly in another. His faith and obedience went up and down, down and up. But through it all, the grace of Jesus toward Peter endured. This is also how we will endure - through the amazing, enduring grace of God. In 21 stories, authors Stephen Morefield and Benjamin Vrbicek trace the life and teaching of the Apostle Peter as he followed Jesus. Peter’s story gives us hope that Jesus really is a friend of sinners and mighty to save.

Five Stars for Truly Excellent Historical Fiction
I like that the author so thoroughly researched the history and culture, and truly captured the essence of life on the high plains of western Kansas. I also appreciate that the narrator worked hard to create accents and bring out specific nuances in each character’s voice, because there were so many different ones necessary to do the story justice. I recommend this book to everyone who loves stories set in the old West, and especially those who are interested in historical fiction. I chose these ratings because the book itself was absolutely worth 5 stars on its own, and then listening to the characters come to life in the audiobook exactly as I had imagined, made me feel like I was right there with them. Ultimately, it gets 5 stars overall for its ability to make the reader stop and think along the way. Is it really about a county seat fight, or is there more to the story? You’ll have to listen and answer that for yourself.
