The only book I read by CS Lewis is The Screwtape Letters; which I loved. This biography introduced me to many of his more philosophical/scholarly books, which I know look forward to reading.

This is a "must read" for any fan of the works of CS Lewis. I also love that they included two of the Mere Christianity broadcasts at the end.

I enjoyed the book EXCEPT the author really trashed CS Lewis’ wife and I do not think he had evidence for what he said about her.

McGrath’s thorough research and intimate familiarity with Lewis’s published and unpublished writings and relationships with friends and colleagues allowed McGrath to give the reader a deep and nuanced understanding of Lewis, his life and significance.

McGrath’s biography synthesized Lewis’s scholarly and imaginative writings and life experiences.

How many times can one man's life be interpreted?

There have been many bios of C.S. Lewis, this one written for the 50th anniversary of his death. The author is an Oxford scholar, and Anglican clergyman and positively disposed to his subject.

I found it doesn't add much to those who know a deal about Lewis' life, but his exploration of his subject's work as a Christian apologist, and his later theological writings are well- explored and helped me to understand Lewis through his life and writings.

There was little hagiography, but the continued publication of Lewis suggests that he will be an influence within mere Christian circles for the foreseeable future.

The reader voice was a little flat, but kept me engaged once I got accustomed to his cadences.

This is an insightful and honest chronological look into strengths and weaknesses of a theological hero to many. All heroes have clay feet, and CS Lewis is no exception .The author is able to identify these while elevating the things we love about CS Lewis to their appropriate place.

Based on new manuscript research and detailed readings of Lewis' letters and writings, McGrath has opened the soul of the most reluctant convert to Christianity in England and one of the greatest apologists for his newfound faith. McGrath sheds light on the mysterious relationship between Lewis and his dear friend's mother (Mrs. Moore) who was old enough to be his own mother. Reverential but not hagiographic, this book is a must for anyone who will understand one of the most wonderful writers/thinkers/apologists of the last century.
