William Smithback, a New York Times reporter, and his wife, Nora Kelly, a Museum of Natural History archeologist, are brutally attacked in their apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Eyewitnesses claim and the security camera confirms the killer seen leaving the building was their strange, sinister neighbor - a man who, by all reports, was already dead.

Captain Hayward leads the official homicide investigation, while Pendergast, D'Agosta, and Nora undertake a private quest for the truth. Their serpentine journey takes them into a part of Manhattan they never imagined could exist: a secretive and deadly hotbed of Obeah, the West Indian Zombii cult of sorcery and magic. And it is here they find their true peril is just beginning.

What made the experience of listening to Cemetery Dance the most enjoyable?

Both the story and the fine narration were excellent. One was glued to one's seat waiting and wondering what the next chapter would bring.

What did you like best about this story?

The story had you believing zombies were real.

Which scene was your favorite?

Any of the scenes with the zombies. I loved the action, sounds and fear.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was so sad for the lost of a main character.

Story was dubbed from a tape and there is several sections of dubbing issues. Another great Pendergast story.

Another great story but some dubbing issues

One of the day deepest and most memorable characters I've ever read, Pendergast is a modern freelancing FBI agent that even the great Holmes would appreciate. Congrats to the authors for creating a character and putting him situations that keep me turning pages til the wee hours. Beware entering the world of this highly interesting Special Agent. He'll make you late for work.

Have read The Agent Pendergast books, but wanted to listen to the audio. Found the narration to be great. I’m sure I will listen to more of these books.

Always enjoyable

I love all the Pendergast books, this one was great too. The narrator was very animated sounding. 5 stars

Big Fan Here

audio would skip and repeat at points. And the narrator needs to learn Louisiana accent.

Lots of Audio issues

The performance was fine, but writing started to feel both predictable and a bit on the hokey side for my taste. There were a few too many times when I had to hold my inner skeptic in check. For instance, there were several times when some sort of emotional upheaval was used as an excuse for ghastly (no pun intended) and unbelievably poor decisions on the part of the characters. For me, that started to become difficult to swallow. Also, the authors could also have avoided placing yet another chase in the basement of the museum. That's getting old, at least for me.

I might listen to it again at some point, but probably not soon. There may be a point in time when I'll go back and listen to all the Pendergast books in order. If, or when, I do then I'll probably listen to this one again. But I'll still probably roll my eyes at some parts of it.

Perhaps a bit too "Scooby Doo" for me

Would you listen to Cemetery Dance again? Why?

I recommend this because if you like the fast action thrillers and a narrator who can change characters with the best voice control ever (so you don't need to wonder who's doing the talking), then listen to Rene Auberjonois read this or any of the Pendergast stories he positively slam-dunks these fast paced books.

If you’ve listened to books by Douglas Preston, and Lincoln Child before, how does this one compare?

I listen to almost all the Pendergast stories; this one delivers the same great super detective story and loaded with action. I love the characters Pendergast hangs with.

Which scene was your favorite?

The library scenes are my favorite, the background stories are always well detailed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I like the unabridged stories when I can get Rene Auberjonois as a narrator; if not I will opt for the abridged version depending on where my man is reading. I really didn't want to shut this off and the ending came as a suprise for me I couldn't guess the ending in this one.

I'm a fan of the Pendergast novels and this book lives up to the series' standards. The story wasn't as good as some of their previous work, but I enjoyed it and would recommend it to all Pendergast fans.

In the Pendergast tradition
