About this listen

Among the scattered fringe cities bordering the Cienbal desert, the true name of the Monster of Karth is spoken only in whispers...RAZ I'SYUL ARRO. A sellsword of the utmost caliber, Raz is a killer of paramount skill and highest regard. Towering tall even amongst the atherian, he is the only of his kind to live free in the "civilized" confines of mankind's varied cultures. He has no need of loyalties, his sole affections pledged to the gold crowns that buy his time and skills.

Wed to his blades, Raz's only friends are the Moon and Her Stars and the shadows they bring with the night. But Raz was not born to the mercenary's way, to the butchery and battle of day-by-day survival.

Raz, like a sword, was hammered from steel and fire and ashy smoke, forged on the ruins of an old life. And Raz knows who he owes this new path to, this carved way of blood and iron. The Monster of Karth, after all, would never forget who gave him that name. And some debts can't be paid in gold....

Start of a new Book-Lust

(For younger listeners) It says the F word a handful of times along with with other curse words and mature themes.
That being said, I loved this selection. The book was expertly written and flowed well. The story was CAPTIVATING! I can not wait to listen to the other books in the series! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

A good read well performed

An interesting read about the darkness of humanity from an inhuman source. I look forward to the next installment.

It’s great

It’s great and I love the author, with that said I feel the story jumped to far to fast.

Without spoilers they had a great cast a few different times and they all got wrote off, and the main character is just to ultra great at all and we never knew where he got these skills.

Very entertaining book!

I very much enjoyed this book. one of the main things that I enjoyed was that it was a non-human character. And I know there will be some people that say elves and dwarves aren't human either but outside of a change in height and ear length they're basically human. This character is a draconian/ gargoyle/lizard-man. There are many names depending on what you're reading. I enjoyed the first half of the book more where he was young and still learning how to deal with his new environment. I really would have liked to have seen more of that but I understand they wanted to get to some more action. The narrator did a fine job and I wouldn't want to hear anybody else do it from now on. So hopefully the next book will have him as part of it. this book gave me a little bit of the RA Salvatore Drizzt vibe.

Meh.

The storyline wasn’t bad, there were a few predictable connections, but overall fine. I guess my biggest issue was all the irrelevant details that were forced out. She sleeps around, her mentor is gay, and he turns down human women offered to him. There’s nothing wrong with any of these details in and of themselves, but they added absolutely nothing to the story. Why did O’Connor go out of his way to point them out? None of these elements added anything to the story, and they actually made me care less about her... I don’t know, maybe they’ll become relevant in the next book? One could hope.

Story of Anger and Loss

First thing, the narrator was really good.

Secondly, this story is lacking in depth. It is hard to connect with a lizard creature but you have empathy for his rage. Besides that, there is nothing to connect to.

Third, the storyline jumps around randomly when it didnt need to. We honestly dont need a background story for the girl character. it seems like filler to make the book long.

That being said, I liked it. I wouldnt say it is my favorite, but its a great bloody revenge type story. Dont expect to be blown away.

Disappointing.

I guess I read the description wrong but I thought raz was going to already be this great warrior but it’s just giving a huge back story. Might return this one and just start with book 2

excellent, a different type of character

Excellenr book and an excellent audio presentation. The protagonist is a different type of character, which I found very welcomed and enjoyed. The audio performance ... because it was done much better than just a read through, as reader used variations in tone, accents and more ... was one of the best audio books which I've ever hear. i am guaranteed to look for both author and reader later ... after finish this review.
