About this listen
Children Want to Write is a collection of Donald Graves' most significant writings paired with recovered tapes that illuminate his research and his inspiring work with teachers. Hear the earliest documented use of invented spelling, the earliest attempts to guide young children through a writing process, and the earliest conferences. This collection allows you to hear this revolutionary shift in writing instruction - with its emphasis on observation, reflection, and approaching children as writers.

Inspired by a teacher's question, "How do you fit it all in?" they identified and prioritized the daily, essential, belief-based practices that are worth spending time on. They asked, "Who will these students be as readers and writers after a year under our care?"

Sound Research for Energizing My Teaching-Perfect Timing
I just finished the audible version—ordered the print version that includes a dvd. Graves, Kittle, and Newkirk remind me of the best of my teaching, leave me yearning to continue my growth. For some some, the writing process and conference movement seems dated, but Graves connects our current teaching context with the need to give our writers the space, time, and choice they need to grow and learn. Graves’ work remains relevant. This book is perfect timing.
