Publisher's summary

Daniel Wagner, a veteran current affairs analyst and Asia expert, has been traveling to China since 1986, has visited the country dozens of times, has worked with some of its largest Chinese financial institutions and state-owned enterprises, and has published scores of articles on China since the 1990s. In this book, he examines why the Chinese government acts as it does on the international stage and the impacts it has had, and will have, on countries around the world in the future.

Having been a leading economic and political power for centuries, it is well on its way to once again becoming the world's leading country in the coming decade. This is due in large part to China's amazing transformation from rural economic backwater to global manufacturing powerhouse, but also the Chinese government's unique view of the country's place in the world. From China's perspective, it is merely picking up where it left off in the 19th century.

Seen in Asia as the 800-pound gorilla that can more or less do as it pleases in the economic, political, and military arenas, and elsewhere in the world as a country that must be reckoned with, China plays by its own set of rules. Very few countries are willing to object or stand up to it. The book explores how and why China has approached foreign policy as it has, the impact this has had on countries around the world, and what the rest of the world can expect from China once it becomes the world's largest economy, its strongest political power, and continues to develop its already advanced technological prowess.

There is good reason why China is on the precipice of global supremacy-it has used the existing global framework to its own distinct advantage, and yet, it would like to modify that framework to ensure that its comparative advantage continues well into the future. The Chinese government has already redefined some of the rules of the game in areas such as cyber warfare and artificial intelligence, and is in the process of redefining the nature of diplomacy and international relations.

Understanding the Chinese government's motivations and actions will be more important than ever going forward. The book is broad in scope and includes chapters on the global economy, Asia and the South China Sea, the US, the Middle East, cyber warfare, and AI. Listeners will benefit from Wagner's decades of experience in Asia and his own unique lens from which to analyze and interpret international relations as well as Beijing's likely future impact on the global economic, political, technological, and military landscape. The stakes are high for the Chinese, greater Asia, and the world, as China seeks to create a world crafted in its own image.

Thought provoking.

Extremely eye opener about China’s manipulation to try to create a world on its own vision. I’ve known about some Chinese entrepreneurs going around the planet buying land and real state but I wasn’t aware of the full picture. I don’t want to be a spoiler, so I will just say that this is a MUST listen or read book for everyone who wants to have awareness about China’s way of doing business and its international relations with the other nations. Thank you Daniel Wagner for such outstanding work!

A Must Read on China's Pervasive Global Presence

If you only read/listen to one book on China this year, you'd be hard-pressed to find something better written, documented and comprehensive regarding China's recent growth and its multifaceted efforts to achieve predominance in economic, geopolitical and technological spheres. The author is justifiably critical of China's rise, what its objectives are, and the lengths it has gone to assert Chinese influence around the world, primarily for its own benefit. At the very least, this book should provide a necessary wake-up call for the rest of the world to pay closer attention to all aspects of China Vision, and the potential they have to substantially alter the future world order.

China's Master Plan & Master Strategy

Xi Jinping vows to make China great again. Since imperial decline in the First Opium War, every Chinese leader has sought the same with huge support from Chinese people. No one should be surprised about that.

Xi Jinping’s strategy for a modern China of unprecedented Power and Influence requires recapturing lost glories at Home and Abroad. It includes reincorporating Taiwan; and together with other island and maritime claims.

All the details and the logics in the audio are already and widely available to any average reader, if he or she pays attention enough to the news; and/or follow China's news and situations.

The author just summed up and put everything in one single audio book, which makes it easier for readers to follow all at one.

Surely, China will promote its own China-led Global Order, if not already.

Another timely and insightful work by Wagner

I was first introduced to Daniel Wagner during my masters in Global Affairs program via his previous book, Global Risk Agility and Decision Making. China Vision follows in in its footsteps, providing a concise, practical and well studied look at how China perceives and behaves in the world. This book is a must for anyone who's work is impacted by this rising global power. The best thing about Wagner's books is that I always come away with actionable ideas that positively impact my professional work and academic studies. My only critique is on the narration, not the work itself. At times the tone of the narrator was a bit pitchy and distracting. However, it would not keep me from recommending this audio book to other. Well done, Mr. Wagner.

Great Book, thought provoking

A great and thoroughly articulated discussion on how China is working to establish itself as the global leader by mid century.

Not even a pretense of balance or objectivity

I learned one thing... better do more research before trusting review ratings. This is just a worthless anti-China diatribe.

One sided and not well researched

The author obviously hasn’t spend much time in China nor provide any expertise in the area. Anyone could have written the content in this book by reviewing material available. There are lots of other books out there will provide lots more insight than this one. Disappointing because there are lots of good reviews this book.
