Ancients & Demons

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Overall the book was an ok read. It took some time to get into the story, but the premise had an interesting appeal to me. Some of the writing felt stilted at times, and the chemistry between the H & h wasn't as "electric" as it could have been.

Would you be willing to try another book from A. P. Jensen? Why or why not?

I would be willing to listen to the next book in the series, as I'm curious as to the rest of the overall plot is unfolding.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was okay. Her male voices were differentiated from the female ones by huskiness and most of the characters had distinctive voices. Some of the scenes felt choppy in their portrayal, but I'm not sure if that was due to the narrator, the written word, or the production.

Any additional comments?

Love and Dragon Blood Conquers All

Would you consider the audio edition of Clutch of the Demon to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, however I loved this version and would happily re-listen rather than buy the print

What other book might you compare Clutch of the Demon to and why?

I would compare this story to Beauty and the Beast though a far more adult edition, with more to offer in terms of storyline, characters and sex

Have you listened to any of Beth Stewart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't heard any of her previous work but I'm eager to hear more!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved all of the interactions between Cara and Aoden, their strong personalities work together so well

Beauty & the Beast-maybe Demon Slayer & the Dragon

Clutch of the Demon starts with Cara a demon hunter, trying to save her little sister Skye who has been infected with a deadly disease by the Master Demon Lucas after Cara has been interfering with his plans consistently. There were rumors that an Ancient might be able to save her sister if Cara could find the Ancient in time. Without regards for her life, Cara set forth to Ireland to find the Ancient.

Aodhan, an Ancient and dragon, has been cursed in the cave of Ireland so many hundreds of years ago. He has given up hope of anyone breaking the curse, let alone finding him. When Cara has entered into his cave, he struck a deal with Cara that for the cure, she will have to return to him and remain with him as long as he remains in the cave.

Cara has a secret and knew that her days are numbered. She would rather finished her fight with the Master Demon than die at Aodhan's hands.

What I like about the story, is that it is told with the Beauty and the Beast trope except the story doesn't end when the curse is broken. I love it when Aodhan told Cara that since she freed him from his prison, he was going to find a way to free Cara from hers. There are other scenes that I love between Aodhan and Cara. Both are so sure of themselves that their personalities crashed and at the same time completes each other.

Anyone who loves the fairy tales of Beauty and the Beast will love this retelling of the story with dragon, demons, immortals, witches, and magic. The story doesn't end when the curse is broken. Readers/Listeners will love the little extra to the story.

The narrator, Beth Stewart gave Cara, the demon slayer persona. Cara is smart, bold, and courageous when she fights for the people she loves and cares about. She is a matter-of-fact person. Aodhan is temperamental and arrogance which is delivered so well by Beth Stewart.

A Re-telling with a demon hunter and a dragon! :)

A.P. Jensen had already impressed me with her "Unmemorables" series, so I was eager to check out more of her work. This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with a paranormal twist, including a demon hunter! How awesome is that idea? The demon side of the plot was perfectly creepy, and exciting. We are given clues that there is more to the story, and although I guessed this twist it was still great. I'm not totally sold on Aiden yet, but the romance was still ok. The sex scenes however are done very well, with the perfect amount of heat. Be aware, there are plenty of these scenes if that is not your thing. Beth Stewart is the narrator of the audiobook. She does a nice job with the voices, and it is easy to follow who is speaking. There is supposed to be another book released after this one, and I will definitely continue on with that one. I hope to check out "Birthright" next, which is another book from this rising author!
