One FBI agent. One single mother. And a toddler who steals his heart.
All FBI agent Ethan Thomas wants is to come home to his new apartment and enjoy the luxury of his new flat-screen TV and some frozen pizza. Encountering a tiny toddler alone in the hall changes everything for the rough and rugged agent. Relief sets in when the child's mother appears. But when she collapses at his feet just before a blizzard hits Boston, Ethan is in over his head.
Now, Ethan is changing diapers, playing doctor, and loving every minute of it. The mother and child need a place to stay, and Ethan can't possibly turn them away. But this investigator knows people, and the woman he’s falling for is keeping secrets. Can he uncover the truth while protecting them from the dangers of his job?
Ethan’s story is finally here! Rogues and Rescuers is a brand new spin-off series from USA Today best-selling and award-winning author Lucy Leroux. The second book is coming soon, but if you can't wait, check out Singular Obsession - the award-winning series that started it all!
Every book in the Rogues and Rescuers & Singular Obsession series are stand-alone stories featuring a different couple. HEA guaranteed!

This is the first spin-off book from the Singular Obsession series; the new series is called Rogues and Rescuers, which is certainly à propos. If you’ve listened to or read any of the Singular Obsession books, you'll be at least peripherally familiar with the hero of this book, Ethan, an FBI agent. Often the other heroes in that series were either trying to hide something from their friend Ethan or needing his help! This is Ethan and Julieta's story. Ethan's a bit of a player, but all that changes during a blizzard when he and the heroine are forced together while she is very ill, so ill that she’s barely conscious when he finds her … and her little girl is wandering around. He is a protector by nature, even if he's a bit grumbly about it and doesn't quite know what to do with her toddler daughter. He's so cute and sweet with her, though. It always softens the hero when he's good with kids. In fact, one of my favorite later scenes came a little later in the book after the blizzard had passed and they are all with his group of friends’ families, and Ethan has a very serious discussion with his very young godson about consent! Through the forced proximity and gradually coming to appreciate that the heroine is in danger, Ethan becomes more and more protective and eventually cares for the heroine and her little girl. Of course, things have to get bad before the end, but the hero does a fantastic job for the woman he's come to love and her little girl who has spontaneously started to call him Daddy. I listened to the audiobook version of this story, and the narrator did well on certain things—like the little girl's voice she was able to make so endearing, even her simple phrases—yet other parts weren't good. The one that perhaps drove me the most crazy was how often the Mexican heroine sounded more like she was from Russia rather than Mexico! In my mind, those accents are completely different! A thoroughly enjoyable listen, though, and I am looking forward to more in this series.

Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes
Story comment: good pace, well written characters and an entertaining story.
I enjoyed watching FBI agent and longtime bachelor Ethan's gruff edges soften as he spends time caring for Julie and learned what to do with her toddler. 😆
Narrator comment: Marie Smith is a new narrator for me and I think she's done a good job narrating Codename Romeo. I had no problem distinguishing characters and her rhythm, inflections and intonations all worked to bring the book to life.
