About this listen
The Barner family relocates to Cold Hollow, a quaint town nestled in a Vermont mountain range. They find it to be quite charming, and the inhabitants endearing, except for a few residents. Odd laws are enforced, confrontations begin, and insanity reigns as a madman sits upon his imaginary throne, trying to keep the threads of his dream from unraveling. Will Sophia and Angus Barner be able to protect their children from the malevolence that lurks within the small township? This is the story of a place you'll never want to visit.

Story
When an unknown assailant targets young Peter Carston, hackles and guns are raised as questions float to the surface of a bloody pool. Peter hopes those questions will be answered in time but is unsure. The next full moon approaches, and time becomes precious for the residents of the small Midwest township. The pressure is on to save their close-knit community before it becomes Satan's playground. Of course, it won't be easy catching the killer. It seldom is.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Great beginning to a fun ride!!!
Cold Hollow was excellent. The story was well developed, emotionally provocative and thoroughly enjoyable. The small town of Cold Hollow was populated with genuine people who feel real. They all are very quirky and in the case of this story, everyone has something they are trying to hide just boiling under the surface and wanting out. Reminded me very much of the way Stephen King writes his small town characters. There was intrigue, murder and mystery. What more could you ask for. Amazing.
J. Scott Bennett did a fantastic job with his subtle narration and superb character voices, he is definitely someone that I look forward to hearing when I am looking for new books.

My oh my, what a pleasant surprise.
If you could sum up Cold Hollow in three words, what would they be?
horror, riveting, twists
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot may seem to be going down a standard path but quickly deviates. I am a avid reader and it is becoming harder to surprise me and keep me interested. I don't like to retell the story in my reviews, but I will state I am a very picky reader and I did not put this down until I was finished!
Which character – as performed by J. Scott Bennett – was your favorite?
Myrna Bradbury, she is just the kind of friend I would love to have!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
As I stated above, I did just that, listened to it all in one day.
Any additional comments?
While I did get this book in exchange for a honest review I do review honestly. I spend a lot of money here at Audible and would never recommend someone spend their hard earned money on something I did not enjoy. Having said that, everyone has different tastes, but I absolutely enjoyed this book and if there was any fault in it, I would have to say that I wish it lasted longer.

Gripping & Intriguing - A Must Read!
Where does Cold Hollow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Cold Hollow would rank in the top 20 of the audiobooks I've listened to so far. The story and characters are very well written and developed. I was engaged throughout the story and left wanting more - so much so that I listened to the book in one sitting. I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. This book has an excellent plot and intriguing story -- Not quite what I expected but extremely enjoyed and so glad I listened to it.
Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not had the pleasure of listening to J. Scott Benett's peformances before but will be looking for more of his work. He does an excellent job narrating and his character voices and portrayal of each are impeccable. He has the ability to add to the excitement and tension of the story.

Interesting and somewhat unexpected
I'm not sure what to think of the actual story. I found the writing to be exact and very detailed which, in some ways, tends to take away from the imagination, but in other ways enhances it. I was actually waiting for something totally different to be revealed as the story progressed, so the ending was a pleasant surprise. The epilogue was sweet, and brought tears to my eyes.
The narration was clean. I'm never quite sure if a story would benefit more for having two narrators ... One for the female characters and one for the males.
I am looking forward to listening to the other two books in the series.

A little hokey but eerily intense
I felt this book was riveting in some portions and cheesy in others. Cold Hollow, on the outside looking in, looks like a quirky small town, perfect for starting fresh. However, Nazar makes it clear that this is his town and it will be ran exactly how he says or he will make sure you are "taken care of". I was gifted this book by the author for an honest, unbiased review. The accents that the narrator gave to some of the cast didn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the cast but, I got used to it after a while. I love Myrna, Dr. Tom and the rag tag group that helps them avenge the awful treatment of the Barner's and I was actually a little mad at what happens to them. I felt it really took away something special in the story for things to go the way they did but Myrna and the others carried it through. The thought of being constantly watched and subtlety herded to live by someone else's rules is disconcerting to think about. I would recommend this book and was mostly pleased with it.

Spellbinding and spectacular!
This book was amazing! It was full of plot twists and sub plots and lurking under it all was a truly twisted idea that all too easily could have been a real experiment. The characters were dark and twisted with cores of gold or hellish sulfur. You grew to love and hate them and sometimes both for the same character. The reveals were shocking to the core. The narration was spot on. I can't wait for more!!!! I received this audiobook from the author narrator or publisher for free via audiobookboom in exchange for an unbiased review

I think I found a new favorite series
This book is so good and so creepy. The inhabitants of the perfect-looking town of Cold Hollow hide a secret. This book keeps readers engaged from start to finish, and I finished it in one sitting. I got a little confused in the beginning when the story was jumping from character to character, but as the book progressed, I saw how each character fit into the story. This story is very dark, and yet, there is some humor in it, too. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book, narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I have loved everything I've heard him do. This book is no exception. He has a unique voice that really makes the story come alive. Overall, this was a great book, and I'm really looking forward to more books in the series.

Creepily good!
This was such a creepy and engaging read! I started listening to it and had a tough time taking out the ear phones cause I needed to see what would happen next.
When The Barner family relocates to Cold Hollow, they think it's an idealistic little place to live but their attitudes soon change when they realise that not all is as it seems. While there may be a few odd people living there, it's the mayor of the town that really gives the town a weird feeling. What is going on in this town?
The plot of this is so creepy. I always find a book set in a tight knit small town creepy anyway but add in even shadier characters and you have the recipe for a great book. The author does this one justice. The settings is perfect but what makes it even better are the characters and the feeling you get that things are not at all what they seem. You just know that something is coming!!
The characters were all well written and developed. The Barner family are like any other family trying to settle into a small community. My heart went out to them when they were realising that something was happening.
The author isn't afraid to take a risk, and what a risk it was!! I didn't see that coming and my heart was in my mouth!!
In all, a nail bitter and edge of your seat read. I loved everything about it and will definitely be checking out more of this authors work.
J. Scott Bennett did a great job with the narration. I had no problem following who was talking at any given time. He was also well able to ramp up the tension when needed. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance and will be checking out other works read by him.
