About this listen

Owing to an unfortunate wager made by Sir Philip, the poor relations are once again scrounging around for a plan for solvency. This time it is Colonel Sandhurst to the rescue. After happening on Sir Randolph’s lovely daughter Frederica, who is running away to escape an awful marriage to Lord Bewley, the Colonel devises a plan to force Sir Randolph to settle his bill for six month’s stay and to save Frederica from her fate. The clever plan is thwarted when Lord Bewley shows up at the drop point instead of Sir Randolph. The poor relations must make a deal with Lord Bewley in order to get their money and stay out of jail, an arrangement that turns cases of mistaken identity into cases of romance.

The loveable characters from the Poor Relation Hotel return in this sparkling and adventurous Regency from Marion Chesney.

Wonderful!

The continuing saga is so fun! The main characters are so real and we, as readers, have become so caught up in their lives, that we want HEA’s even for the foul, but highly amusing, sir Philip!

I loved how (spoiler alert) even the servants got their HEA!

Marvelous reader!!

Dependably a joy to listen to ✨🥂

This series is perfect when you need a little pick me up. It isn't complicated. It's cute. It's humorous. It doesn't take itself seriously. I love it.

Colonel Sandhurst to the Rescue (Poor Relation #5)

Colonel Sandhurst is a part owner of the Poor Relations Hotel. He was sent to collect a debt owed by Sir Randolph Gray. He ends up finding Gray’s daughter, Frederica, getting ready to run away because she is being forced to marry Lord Bewley. Colonel Sandhurst decides to help Frederica by bringing her back to the hotel and comes up with a scheme to get the money they are owed at the same time.
Lord Bewley thinks very highly of himself, so he decides to woo Frederica with his good looks and charms but mistakes chambermaid Mary Jones for her. In the meantime, Captain Peter Manners, who is engaged to Belinda, falls for Frederica.
There is so much going on in this book and I enjoyed it all. It made me laugh out loud several times.

An improvement

This book redeems the series a bit over Book 4. However, it is highly predictable. Most likely, the way you hope the story will work out is exactly how it will work out. If you’re looking for a low-stress read, this will satisfy you.
