Acclaimed author Kiley Reid’s fresh and provocative story about desire, consumption, and bad behavior.

It's 2017 at the University of Arkansas, and Millie Cousins—a super-senior resident assistant at Belgrade Dormitory—just wants to graduate, get a job, and buy a house. So when Agatha Paul, a writer and visiting professor itching for her next big topic, offers Millie an easy yet unusual opportunity for them to help each other further their own interests, Millie naturally jumps at the chance.

But Millie's starry-eyed hustle quickly becomes jeopardized by a lonely transfer student, unruly residents, and illicit intrigue. Both Millie and Agatha are forced to question just how much of themselves they are willing to trade to get what they want.

Sharp and intimate, Come and Get It, the new thought-provoking, singular novel by the bestselling and critically acclaimed author Kiley Reid, explores the choices we make, particularly for the things that can and cannot be paid for.

Critic reviews

"A thrilling, delectable look at wealth, privilege, and desire."People Magazine

"Wonderfully immersive, propulsive, and beautifully paced. On page one, there is a story that is already happening, and you’re plunged right into the novel’s world, already up and running, full of real people, and complicated—that is, substantive—as all hell. Just great.”—Paul Harding, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of This Other Eden and Tinkers

"Come and Get It is an engrossing novel full of intimately portrayed characters and the seemingly innocuous choices that lead to life-altering mistakes."Elizabeth Acevedo, author of Family Lore and The Poet X

Editorial Review

Come and listen to this
I couldn’t imagine a better way to ring in the new year than with a new listen from Kiley Reid, who burst onto the publishing scene in 2019 with her buzzy debut, Such a Fun Age. In Come and Get It, Reid turns her brilliant knack for witty dialogue and sardonic social observation to the campus of the University of Arkansas. There, a Black resident assistant forms a complicated relationship with a white professor, and a troubled transfer student along with her mean-girl roommates are caught in the crossfire. Featuring multiple POVs, this audiobook could have easily had a full cast, but narrator Nicole Lewis (who also performed Such a Fun Age) rises to the challenge. Lewis so intimately nails each woman’s unique speech style, accent, and cadence, it was easy to forget it’s just one person giving them their voices. —Margaret H., Audible Editor

Don't let negative reviews deter you

I loved Such a Fun Age and narrator Nicole Lewis, so I was excited to hear a new Kiley Reid book was out! It was highly entertaining going in with no real expectations about the subject of the book. Reid writes rich, realistic characters down to their physical mannerisms. Lewis' performance brought them to life, accents and all. I devoured this audiobook and laughed when I tried to explain to my husband what was so engaging about it. There was some cringey nostalgia for my college days. My love for gossip being met by fictional characters. The story has layers that leave me wanting to explore them all before digging deeper to the next.

I'm so glad I picked this title up and look forward to the next book by Kiley Reid!

Made me literally LOL multiple times.

The accents and different impressions of southern college girls was spot on. Great story, great narration. Loved this book.

LOVE IT 🥰

A beautiful story about days in the life of women. I felt like yes I have been there so many times. So thoughtfully written. You feel like the Chas are friends and you experience things with them. ❤️

A little vapid

I didn’t enjoy this novel as much as her first one. I thought the dialogue was insipid at times and thoughts and conversations dragged on. But I slogged through. It’s an easy listen but the characters weren’t as deeply developed as I would have liked. The author definitely has what to say about the college atmosphere and students. I guess I’m just not there anymore.

Another terrific novel

An excellent novel, and a particularly good reading. Nicole Lewis differentiates the characters perfectly. This one's quite different from Kiley Reid's first novel, but just as good, if not better, and just as entertaining. Brilliantly original.

Monotony

I just couldn’t get through it. I have no interest in girls gossiping about each other.

Great characters

Kiley Reid does such an amazing job of capturing the little things that make a character complete - gestures, phrasing, etc - and Nicole Lewis absolutely delivers on those individualities. Loved the different voices, accents, and inflections.

Too much dialog

I could have read the first couple of hours and the last hour and would have understood the whole story. All this mindless talking throughout the whole book was just so tiring. I really liked the authors other book , this one not so much. I loved the narrator though.

this was different

It's slow to start but I'm glad I gave it a chance! This is an excellent book. The plot was nuanced and original. The characters are alive because the dialogue is so good. I also love this author's sense of humor.
