About this listen
Teeming with marvelous, memorable characters in an audiobook that is a true masterpiece, Rosamunde Pilcher's Coming Home is a story to be savored, re-listened to, and cherished forever.
Set against the backdrop of an elegant Cornwall mansion before World War II and a vast continent-spanning canvas during the turbulent war years, this captivating story tells of an extraordinary young woman's coming of age, coming to grips with love and sadness, and in every sense of the term, coming home....
In 1935, Judith Dunbar is left behind at a British boarding school when her mother and baby sister go off to join her father in Singapore. At Saint Ursula's, her friendship with Loveday Carey-Lewis sweeps her into the privileged, madcap world of the British aristocracy, teaching her about values, friendship, and wealth.
But it will be the drama of war, as it wrenches Judith from those she cares about most, that will teach her about courage...and about love.

In 1631 Elizabeth Winthrop, newly widowed with an infant daughter, set sail for the New World. Against a background of rigidity and conformity she dared to befriend Anne Hutchinson at the moment of her banishment from the Massachusetts Bay Colony; dared to challenge a determined army captain bent on the massacre of her friends, the Siwanoy Indians; and, above all, dared to love a man as her heart and her whole being commanded.

Story
A Place Like Home is a collection of Rosamunde Pilcher’s most enduring short stories, never before published in audiobook form. The collection contains 15 stories, which range from "The Holiday", in which a wife surprises her husband of 25 years with a holiday full of Mediterranean sunshine, red rocks, and blue seas in an effort to rekindle the romance they had before children; "The Eye of Love", which takes the listener to the bright spring sunshine and sparkling waves of a Northumbrian village where old flames meet again; and more.

Great love story.
It is so refreshing to read an old fashion love story where all the characters you have come to to love have good things happen to them - despite living in the time of war. It made my heart feel happy.

Nice Coming of Age Story
This is a sweeping story of an English house and it's various inhabitants before and after WWII. The story follows two girls as they grow up and make choices - good and bad - that change their lives. It won't change your life, but it was a great listen on a long car trip. #Family Saga #WWII #Feel Good #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

My favorite Rosamunde Pilcher book and an EXCELLENT narrator
I have read this book every Christmas break since I was in college 15-20 years ago. But life has gotten busy and reading isn’t as easy as it once was.
Helen Johns is a fabulous narrator. All the characters are just right.

Almost cried when it was over
After spending 40 hours with the people in this book, incredible characters and the amazing job done by the narrator, Helen Johns, the characters in this book became my friends. If you were only going to publish two books in a lifetime this is certainly an excellent one to be in that number.
The characters, are complex and lively and the narrator helps reinforce the richness of each and everyone of them. Could not wait for the next opportunity to listen to more of the book. It’s making me want to return to a summer long ago when I first read the Shell Seekers. That just might need to be my next listen!

Soothing
This book is so soothing and the characters like old friends. The settings are beautiful and romantic and cozy. The story takes you through the Second World War and the changes that it brought about. I highly recommend listening to this wonderful story.

Love it
I read this book many times, now listening was fun. I really like the performance. When I first read it I was young and looked from Judith's perspective. Now I am a mother and I can look from mother's perspective, it is a nice change. Feels like a total new story.

An absolute gem!
This book is a masterful combination of history and a wonderful plot involving genuinely appealing characters. I could hardly wait to find out what would happen not only with the main character, but also for others and found the historical integration enlightening. It was also beautifully read. 40hours of listening absolutely flew by!

One of my all time favorite books now in an unabridged audiobook.
I have read this book multiple times since it was originally released. I loved revisiting this world with the narration of Helen Johns as narrator. A beautiful story of growing up, pre and post world war 2, and relationships. Rosamunde brings the messiness of life as well as the beauty in her novels.
