About this listen

Too often, political questions are framed in impossible ways for the faithful Christian: We're forced to choose between social justice and biblical values, between supporting women and opposing abortion. As a result, it's easy for Christians to grow disillusioned with civic engagement or fall back into tribal extremes. This state of affairs has damaged Christian public witness and divided the church.

The authors of this book represent the AND Campaign, which exists to educate and organize Christians for faithful civic and cultural engagement. They insist that not only are we called to love our neighbors through the political process but also that doing so requires us to transcend the binary way the debates are usually framed. In simple, understandable language, they lay out the biblical case for political engagement and help Christians navigate the complex world of politics with integrity, from political messaging and the politics of race to protests, advocacy, and more.

When we understand our civic engagement as a way to obey Christ's call to love our neighbor, we see that it is possible to engage the political process with both love and truth - compassion and conviction.

Democracy is a verb

Democracy is a verb that requires compassion & conviction to love our neighbor, walk humbly, do justice, and to have mercy. May we have the courage to do so always.

Simple but Profound

This book was simple and short, but profound in its truths and practical ways to live them out. This is THE book every Christian should begin with before engaging politically. It does not answer every little question, it’s not meant to. But it sets up a beautiful framework for how Christians should engage in American politics.

Such great content!

The content of this book is priceless, something that everyone should hear. I love the church politics podcast so it was great getting to read their book as well. Unfortunately the book is not read by them, and the voice was hard to tune into. I would recommend reading the book over listening to the audiobook because of the voice, or just listening to their podcast.

Thought provoking.

I appreciated the heart and spirit that went into creating this book. It allowed me to search inwardly on what I need to change, how I can be an advocate and engage in the political world.

how is the headline both required and optional

The book helped me see where I have fallen short of being prepared to speak to others about different subjects. it let me know how much more I need to be prayerful and careful I should be about my conviction and compassion.

A helpful political guide for Christians

The authors do a good job of bringing balance between often polarized political sides and give practical tips for Christians who want to become more politically active.

Very timely

I think this is a must read for every Christian. Whether you’re politically engaged or not, this is so important and I feel that it is very well written. My only complaint is that the narration is pretty dry.

For such a time as this...

Amazing, a book that truly answers the question of where a believer should engage and how in political conversations.

Highlights ways for Christians to engage politically while keeping Jesus as King of the Universe

While thoughtful points are made on this important topic, I feel the & Campaign sometimes over-simplifies which political party is better on certain policies or topics. For example, I believe republican policies are more effective for human flourishing on the topics of social justice - and Republicans heart is for the human flourishing of all including the marginalized and the poor - but sometimes the & campaign seems to lead listeners to believe that Democratic policies align more effectively with achieving social justice. So I disagree with that narrative - but overall they do a great job of trying to address how Christians can engage on these complex and nuanced problems while keeping Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our hearts
