About this listen
Ambrosia Tisdale is the very picture of propriety and the epitome of what a respectable young lady should be. Haunted by a memory and compelled by her family, she pursues perfection to a fault.
The Earl of Bristol, Duncan Maddox, has returned to London after years of familial-imposed exile. As the second son, he has led a life filled with frivolity, leisure, and a healthy dose of debauchery. Now, his older brother has died, leaving the family's flailing legacy in Duncan's unwilling arms.
At the behest of his uncle, Duncan is advised to do the one thing that could provide instant fortune and respectability - he must marry. But there is only one prospect who meets the unique requirements to solve all the earl's problems - the lovely Miss Ambrosia Tisdale. But securing the prudent daughter of a viscount's hand proves to be more challenging than this scandal-ridden second son of an earl has bargained for.
With scandal, extortion, treachery, and even love itself threatening to keep him from his goal, will Duncan succeed or find himself compromised by Miss Tisdale?
Contains mature themes.

Story
Shunned by a society that puts attractiveness above all else, Lady Eliza Darby’s wallflower status keeps her from getting the one thing she wants most, namely, to be a mother. But, when her scorned older sister returns home to see all of her sisters wed in happy matches, it may be Eliza’s only chance to secure a husband and have the children she so desires. Jilted in a publicly humiliating display, Dax Kane, the Duke of Ashbourne, has sworn off love forever. But, when the title demands it, he selects the most perfect candidate for the position: Lady Eliza Darby.

Story
Wealthy and arrogant, Gabriel Penhallow knows it's time to fulfill his dynastic duty. All he must do is follow "The Penhallow way" - find a biddable bride, produce an heir and a spare, and then live separate lives. It's worked so well for generations, certainly one kiss with the delectable Livia Stuart isn't going to change things. Society dictates he marry her, and one chit is as good as another as long as she's from a decent family.

Story
Lady Grace Wyatt is content as a wallflower, focusing on scientific pursuits rather than the complications of society matches. But when a handsome, celebrated naturalist returns from abroad, Grace wishes, for once, to be noticed. Her solution: to “build” the perfect man, who will court her publicly and help her catch his eye. Grace’s colleague, anthropologist Sebastian Holloway, is just the blank slate she requires. To further his own research on English society, Sebastian agrees to let Grace transform him from a bespectacled, bookish academic into a dashing - albeit fake - rake.

Jasper Sutton—London’s most dedicated scoundrel—needs a wife, and he needs one quickly. He needs one yesterday, in fact. His requirements are precise: she must be capable of mothering the wild twin daughters who have unexpectedly appeared in his life, and so must possess the patience of a saint and the understanding of an angel. Better still if she is plain and has no expectation of a true marriage. He is not about to reform his ways.

Story
It is her first London season, and Lady Louisa Hargreaves could not be more pleased. She has attracted the attention of the earl of Kerridge, and the two are on the cusp of an official betrothal. That is, until she learns of a generations-old family debt: Her grandfather gambled her hand in marriage and lost, and now, Louisa must pay the price. She will marry not the earl but a man she just met who has taken her freedom in one fell swoop. Even as she struggles to understand the handsome and aloof man she is to wed, Louisa is irresistibly drawn to him - and he to her.

Love can be so complicated
As a writer it must be very difficult to come up with different plots, characters and other details when actually writing a book. I marvel at how many stories are out there that don’t overlap some other story which has been written. Again, this book is different with very likable characters, interesting plot twists, and a surprising denouement. All the characters seem real with understandable foibles which don’t go away just because they’ve grown older but must be worked on as they learn about themselves and their own motivations brought on by their pasts. This book is very good and entertaining.

Pretty good story and great narration.
I enjoyed most of this story. There was a bit of repetitiveness going on which became a bit annoying, but it wasn't as bad as some books.
I liked Ambrosia for the most part. She was very proper for sure. I really really liked Duncan Maddox the Duke of Bristol. He was a great lead male character.
The story line and plot was good even with the repetitiveness. There was a bit of a twist that I didn't see coming which made it better.
As for the narration. I really enjoy Beverly Crick. She does great narrations these days. The men sound like men. She reads with emotion and has a nice reading voice.

Decent enough
This is my first Jessica Jefferson novel. There are no standout aspects, but she manages to tell a well-paced story with fairly interesting characters. I could have walked away without a niggling of doubt. I was in no way invested, but it did pass the time as an Audible Escape.

Liked heroine despite her rigidity
Pros: Heroine free of silliness
Great family, especially h’s sisters
Kept my interest.
Cons: Hero has sex with other women after the first time he kisses heroine
Romance & attraction between H & h is not compelling
