“Consecration to the Blessed Virgin according to St. Louis de Montfort” is a primer which spells out for you in plain language the whats, whys, and hows of the devotion to Mary about which St. Louis wrote…

“Predestinate soul, here is a secret the Most High has taught me, which I have not been able to find in any book, old or new. I confide it to you, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit” (“The Secret of Mary”, 1).

He insists the Holy Spirit wants you to know this secret, because the Holy Spirit also revealed to him that so many souls can’t determine the difference between a true and a false devotion to Mary. And it’s costing them their eternal salvation. That’s why he warns…

“There are at this time, more than ever, false devotions to our Blessed Lady which it is easy to mistake for true ones. The devil, like a counterfeiter and a subtle and experienced deceiver, has already deceived and destroyed so many souls by a false devotion to the Blessed Virgin, that he makes a daily use of his diabolical experience to plunge many others by this same way into everlasting perdition” (“True Devotion to Mary”, 90).

He only echoes Jesus Himself, who told St. Bridget of Sweden, at a time when the only Christians on the planet were Catholics and some Orthodox…

“Do not be surprised at what I say. If the wisest man in the world could count up how many souls fall into hell each day, they would outnumber the sands of the sea or the pebbles on the shore. I am saying this so that the devil’s numbers may decrease, and the danger become known, and My army be filled up. If only they would listen and come to their senses!”

Jesus confirms what the Holy Spirit warns us about in the Bible…

“There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death” (Prov. 14:12; 16:25), and…

“Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14).

That’s why this doesn’t feel like an urgent “fix it now or die” situation. You won’t address a problem you don’t know exists.

And so, it’s crucial for you to make sure your devotion to Mary is authentic.

And that’s precisely why St. Louis makes it a point to emphasize and reassure you that this devotion to Mary…

“…is a path trodden by Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, our sole Head. One of His members in passing by the same road cannot deceive himself” (True Devotion, 168).

When you practice this devotion to Mary, St. Louis emphasizes that Mary will transform you into the highest Christian ideal to which God is calling you…

“Let us remember, I repeat it for the second time, that Mary is the great and exclusive mold of God, proper to make living images of God, at small cost and in a little time” (True Devotion, 260).
