Publisher's summary

The Conversational Spanish audio series complements beginner Spanish learning programs, and works by improving listening comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammatical skills through listen-and-repeat style active learning sessions. Basic familiarity with elementary Spanish is recommended for best results.

Designed for self-taught language learners, Fluent Penguin picks up where Pimsleur™ and Rosetta Stone™ leave off. By exposing you to a wide variety of translated conversations in everyday situations, Fluent Penguin builds your vocabulary and intuitive recognition of grammar, sentence structure, and idiomatic phrases.

Modeled after the proven and effective Pimsleur™ method of language learning, Fluent Penguin conversational collections employ context-driven recall techniques to help you anchor new vocabulary and phrases to the situations in which you will use them. All lessons are in audio format, and use subtle repetition and meaningful associations to maximize retention of new information.

Each collection consists of conversations about common topics, ranging from work scenarios to current events, to leisure activities and travel. Each statement in a conversation is first narrated in English, then spoken by native voice actors in a variety Spanish accents. Time is provided after each statement for you to repeat aloud and hone your pronunciation.

Need experience

I have training in Spanish so for me it was incredible and really pushed me. If you don't have any training you could be overwhelmed by how they change verb tenses.

Good immersion-style training

Would you consider the audio edition of Conversational Spanish - The Beginner Collection: Course One, Lessons 1-5 to be better than the print version?

It looks like the print version is for reading along, to build up literacy. I did not read along while studying.

Any additional comments?

There is a lot of vocabulary for a beginner, but it is still good exposure. I'll probably end up revisiting the lessons a few times for review.

Pretty good overall

This is a great learning tool. My only complaint is the female sounds like she's yelling and has a really naggy tone. It's almost bad enough to make me not want to listen. It's supposed to sound like a natural conversation between native speakers, but she runs it for me. Other than that, it's great.
