Publisher's summary

"I’m not like other women; I’m Kumari, Queen of the Realm, and I’m cursed."

Trust was a liberty that as Kumari, Bae could not afford, especially after the murder of Bae’s mother, the late Kumari. The Kumari bloodline had to continue regardless of the cost, even if it was the life of someone she loved.

There were only two things that a Kumari should trust; magic and her seven mates. The race was on for Bae to find and claim her seven mates before she had to defend her realm from an unknown enemy. With them, she still might not win, but alone she would definitely fail.

Superbly enjoyable

This was very enjoyable and a great story of magic and prophecy and it was very well done with the narrator doing the story right

Love and betrayal!

This is the story of the Kumari, her ascension to the crown, her search for the prophecy and the seven mates she chooses along the way. Bae is mourning the death of her mother and trying to comprehend the importance of what she's about to do. As the new Kumari, it is up to Bae to go in search of the prophecy with her brother, Kael, as her protector, her sister, Adelaide, as her advisor and surrounded by over twenty guards. It is the day of her Commencement, her formal ascension to the crown, and three delegates from each tribe have come to negotiate for the needs of their people. Of all 21, Prince Armel stands out with his sparkling eyes and long glances. Bae's magic, and that of her Kitzune, is leading her to her mate. The descriptions of her interactions with her possible mates, their personalities, their likes, their inner thoughts are very well-written and  As they continue along their journey, there are a few disagreements and a plot is being hatched. With a cliffhanger ending, the next book can't come quickly enough! The narration is wonderfully done by Elizabeth LaRose. She gives each character a distinct voice and a perfect accent!

Good start

There’s a good amount of world building in the story which I enjoyed a lot. It did take me a little bit to really get into the story but once I did I didn’t want it to stop. There is a rough cliffhanger at the end which drove me a little crazy. Bae’s adventure is really interesting and I’m excited to see where it will ultimately lead. There’s some really great character interactions so overall a very good start to a good series.

To slow for me.

This is a reverse harem but really in this book it talks about it more then being one. The story over all is okay but it’s very slow. Not a whole lot happens in the first half that kept me just wanting to keep listening. The second half was better but really the last part was where it starts to get interesting with attacks and people conspiring but then it ends. It is continued in the next book but as of now she only has two mates. And boy not to be mean but in my mind reverse harem means some hot sex scenes because really isn’t that what we read them? There isn’t a lot in that department either. Mostly a jealous first mate, who gets over it when the second is claimed. The narrator did okay. I don’t have any complaints but I was not over all moved by her voice. The chances she has to envoys some feeling were few but I feel like they could have been better.

Oriental RH

This was a very different PNR/RH from anything I have read. The 7 kingdoms each host the new 'queen' each choose 7 suiters. 1 from each kingdom will become her mates.
This book has the claiming of her first 2 mates. The 1st warrior the 2nd a scholar.
If you think it's going to be that easy you're wrong.
1st is a prophecy that tells of her doom, the end of her line, and death of magic Also few other things.
2nd is a conspiracy from within who mean her to fail and or death to someone important to her rule.
3rd an unknown evil able to not only kill in the most viel way but able to kill the magic and preventing their soul's rebirth so to say.
Last the attacks on her people.
The fate of her people, herself, and magic its self is in her hands with the aid of her 7 mates.

Fantasy/PNR Reverse Harem

Cursed by the Crown by Hanleigh Bradley is a fantasy PNR reverse harem that I listened to on audio narrated by Elizabeth LaRose. This is the first book in the Kumari’s Kitsune seven book series.

I am pretty much willing to try any genre/book written by Hanleigh and this book did not disappoint. I really enjoyed this story about Kumari (Bae) needing to find her seven mates per tradition so she can rule the kingdom. Throughout this book she finds two of her seven mates. The book does have some suspense and twists due to the prophecy that may be the Kumari’s downfall.

The book does end on a cliffhanger but that wasn’t a surprise since it is the first book in a seven book series. I can’t wait for the next book in the series Tainted by Prophecy to be released on audio so I can get more of Bae and her mates.

Elizabeth did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.

Baskerville Book Reviews

If this is the first of my reviews that you’ve read, I usually write longer reviews. This book is short and hasn’t given me much to talk about. While this story is technically a reverse-harem fantasy romance story (or as I’ve taken to calling them; pin cushion smut), it’s almost entirely set up.

I still think this is good, despite the lack of payoff. Though I admittedly have a weak spot for fantasy and smut…. and reverse harem stories. If anything, I’m more worried about how this will be wrapped up in the sequel. Not a whole lot happened and I worry that it will feel rushed. If you’re looking for reverse harem smut by this same author with more of a payoff; might I suggest Lupine? It’s the only other series of hers I’ve dabbled in. I’ve also reviewed it, so go read that.

The narrator is good. I wish I had more to say. One of my favorite things to do is complain about narrators who can’t pronounce basic words such as caramel (which came up in this story). She pronounced it fine and there weren’t any of audible’s common errors. Overall the audio was great, which is a rarity for sure.

book 1

So, this is book 1 in a new series by Bradley and I think that because this is the first we're getting a lot of back story on the characters as well as the fantasy land this takes place in. Not as romantic or erotic as I've come to expect from Bradley but still a good read / listen. Narration was wonderfully done and you are left with a bit of a cliffhanger so I'm excited to see what's next in store for these characters and with this story line. Definitely some twists and turns up ahead I predict as well as some added romance and chemistry!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
