Publisher's summary

When the Dalai Lama paid a visit to Emory University, he offered an introductory lecture to Tibetan Buddhism. The lecture is not exactly what you’d normally get in the university classroom. The talk is not entirely linear. And he spends some time speaking in English, then speaks in his native tongue (with the help of an interpreter). But, he can talk about Buddhism with the authority that few authors can, and there’s a reason audiences come to see him in droves. Things really get going about 23 minutes in.

The first step of the genuine happiness journey

Listenining to his holiness voice brings warm to the ear and the heart. He even makes some good white jokes and that brings a sweet environent to understanding. Budhadarma teachings represents a long journey that begins with the first step, knowing where you are now. This books helps to know what kind of a journey it is and what path you will be taking. Very nice introduction, the next step of the journey is up to one.

wife again

no wonder i never have any credits left? who can say a bad word about the Dalai lama. His Excellency is the cats ass! I would dislike the Chineese 50% less if they didnt convince the entire population that the Buddhist Tibetans proved them into taking over their county. Because Tibet is some choice real estate. you need breathing oxygen to get half way there. The Chinese propaganda machine has convinced the population that 7 years in Tibet is all lies. Its a true story written by a german climber. just ask brad

A great talk on Buddhism

Here we listen to the Dalai Lama talk about Buddhism and it's history. We learn that the Dalai Lama has a great sense of humor and doesn't care where anyone comes from. Its a good thing that he had a translator available to him because he does struggle with english. Here we learn about the Tibetan Buddhism and their basic believes. Here we also learn why the Tibetans have never translated their teachings verbatim into english. This is a great talk to listen too.

Understated Excelence

What did you love best about Dalai Lama: Introduction to Buddhism?

Expected more of a book presentation but appreciated the unpretentious presentation. This will be listened to multiple times, distilling the ideas & plucking the pearls...

What other book might you compare Dalai Lama: Introduction to Buddhism to and why?

This is a casual talk to a group of followers. Not quite a Sermon on the Mount but certainly definite kernels that will grow with further audits.

Enjoyed

I like listening to him speak and the translations that come after. It was relaxing for me and I don't think you can possibly get everything out of the lecture the first listen through.

Great Short talk with the Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama covers a lot of ground going over the basics of Mahayana Buddhism. Not a particularly in depth conversation, but a good one for beginners interested in the basics.

Deep

I love his holiness sense of humour. Even though the title is called an introduction. As a buddhism myself, I felt that this is already a little too deep to be an intro. There could be many other topic to be firstly introduced or discuss as an intro to buddhism. The description of this talk should mentioned topic discussed ie four noble truths. Although, having said that the way he explained the topic is very easy to understand.

nearly unintelligible - don't waste your time

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I listened to this lecture 3 times. It is only a little over an hour. It is incoherent and unintelligible. I would recommend against a purchase.
