Publisher's summary

Dalí Tamareia has everything—a young family and a promising career as an ambassador in the Sol Fed Diplomatic Corps. Dalí’s path as a peacemaker seems clear, but when their loved ones are killed in a terrorist attack, grief sends the genderfluid changeling into a spiral of self-destruction.

Fragile Sol Fed balances on the brink of war with a plundering alien race. Their skills with galactic relations are desperately needed to broker a protective alliance, but in mourning, Dalí no longer cares, seeking oblivion at the bottom of a bottle, in the arms of a faceless lover, or at the end of a knife.

The New Puritan Movement is rising to power within the government, preaching strict genetic counseling and galactic isolation to ensure survival of the endangered human race. Third gender citizens like Dalí don’t fit the mold of this perfect plan, and the NPM will stop at nothing to make their vision become reality. When Dalí stumbles into a plot threatening changelings like them, a shadow organization called the Penumbra recruits them for a rescue mission full of danger, sex, and intrigue, giving Dalí purpose again.

Risky liaisons with a charismatic pirate lord could be Dalí’s undoing—and the only way to prevent another deadly act of domestic terrorism.

Brink of War with a Twist

On the brink of war and the uprising of The New Puritan Movement, Dali loses everything he held dear. Struggling with the loss of his family - his wife, husband, and child, Dali must also face increased and targeted bias and hatred of genderfluid changelings. Dali discovers a domestic act of terrorism aimed at him and other gender-fluid changelings. Grief threatens to overcome Dali until he is charged with a rescue mission, this alone gives Dali the drive he needs to stay alive and functioning.

E. M. Hamill, the author takes her time building a world in which conflict between fractions attempts to take away hope, yet she provides an opportunity for hope to remain. She is vividly graphic in her descriptions of action and characters. Her main character is in self-destructive mode, other characters are rich in their presence, and there is a growing body count and sexual encounters. The plot twists are well done, and the dialogue is realistic. There are several stories going on in this book so your mind is constantly in action.

The narrator, Justin Gibson gives a good performance using unique voices for characters. He speaks clearly and with precision. He keeps the story moving forward with a steady cadence. I enjoyed hearing his voice.

I found this book fresh and interesting.
