A sparkling tale of Regency England, a forced marriage, and two magicians who must work together to save the Kingdom.

Elizabeth Bennet is stunned when someone from the Royal Mage Academy comes to her peaceful country home to take her away. She is even more bewildered when she is commanded to marry a powerful gentleman by the name of Fitzwilliam Darcy. She has always dreamed of marrying for love, and an arranged marriage with an arrogant stranger was never part of her plans.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is equally dissatisfied with this match. An obscure young lady from the middle of nowhere is hardly worthy of his position. But Darcy and Elizabeth have no choice in the matter. Uniting their two forms of magic is essential if they are to defeat Napoleon's magicians. They may dislike each other on sight, but Elizabeth and Darcy have to overcome their differences and find common ground before it is too late.

Fortunately, it is not long before the sparks begin to fly between them.

Such a well done, interesting P & P telling. The only thing wrong is that the narrative sounds like an old woman, and an old lady voice is wrong for Elizabeth Darcy.

I am not normally into magic but I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and I look forward to read/listen to the next part. Great Jaff

Great start to a series.

I loved the world and the way agic was handled, and the slow burning romance was just right. I could see where it was going but it was just a vague enough impression that when it was confirmed it gave me SO much pleasure to see it!

Fantastic!

The story is good but undermined by vocal casting. While Ms.Dixon is without doubt talented, her voice is far too... mature for a 20ish maiden. It's like listening to Lady Catherine being courted by Darcy. Like casting Dame Judi Dench (love her) as Lizzie rather than Kiera Knightly.
We are visual beings, even in our imaginations. And our voices age as we do. Just because we can't see their beautiful gray hair, it does not mean that we don't know it's there.

Lady Catherine's voice for Lizzie?

Fun to read, and fun to hear. This is an original take on D & E as magic wielders. The narrator gave a great performance.

Entertaining

It is war time in a magical England. Fighting napoleons army are magicians from all over England. Darcy’s partner was killed and he need another to help the war effort. Elizabeth Bennet is chosen to be his partner/mate and wife due to priority of the time. Darcy is too rigid to be able to see Elizabeth’s magical abilities and outside forces prevent her from binding.
This story was inventive and entertaining.
The narrator was good and took the time to bring the story to life.

I am a great fan of Pride and Prejudice and download any variation that sounds interesting…which this one did. The narrator is excellent, though I could understand that for some the distinction between voices/characters would bother some. It did not bother me. What did bother me was that there was one stupid Misunderstanding after r another. It took wayyyyy to long for the Misunderstanding be cleared up; though the original book used this premise as well. I also didn’t like that the H/h were so very easy to be noble and throw away their love for each other. I skipped most of that because it is stupid and silly to rely on that for drama and length of book. That is why I gave the story 3 stars. Why I continued listening is because the other parts of the story were interesting and original. Will I listen to the next book in this series? Probably…or at least until there is these same unoriginal plot twists used for added drama that the book could do without.

Entire book based on an understanding?!

Imperfect, but very enjoyable. The narrator occasionally has a bit of mush mouth--especially following the letter n, but it's not chronic and not overly distracting.

It's apparent even before the wedding what the problem will be and who is behind it, so for most of the book, we're waiting for them to figure it out and watching all that unfolds as the instrument does its damage and the person behind it goes undiscovered.

It's a little frustrating at times.

When Lizzie finally puts the pieces together, she is not in a position to collect the final evidence needed, so she hands her evidence and suspicions off to Lord Matlock. The resolution to that happens off page, and while I suppose that could be disappointing, frankly, with all the other side characters involved and the context--it's far more believable. We're more worried about whether or not Darcy and Elizabeth will get their HEA or not anyway.

Still, there was a lot to enjoy here. This is a Wickham free story, and Mr. Bennett listens to Lizzie and supports her in finding something constructive for Lydia to do. Jane and Bingley are in the story, but they don't meet, and Jane is in only one scene. Caroline Bingley makes a good frenemy. There is adequate groveling and a lot of magic.

4/5 recommend.

Enjoyable

I listened to this Elizabeth and Darcy adaptation for Jane Austen July. it was an enjoyable listen. It had clean romance, but a few inuendo's, mystery, and some suspense. It was a creative, and interesting storyline that kept me listening. And I esp liked how it ended.

Enjoyable listen

I once said in a review that you can tell how good book One is by whether or not you look forward to book Two.

This proves that statement, possibly a little paraphrased. I not only struggled to get through this one, but I could care less if there is a book two.

Each chapter seems to carry the same theme; they are at war with French Mages ready to attack at any moment, ODC fight being married to each other as a Twin Mage pair, they can’t bond their magic, should they annul the marriage, Lizzie’s magic is all wrong, she didn’t get the proper academy training, but she is powerful, the Lady Mages hate her…..yada, yada, yada.

There are good moments and other moments that are different, although they follow the same theme.

Of course, Lizzie’s magic is proved to be far more powerful and helpful than any could imagine. Yeah, we figured that was coming.

The narrator is great on male voices, but her female voices all sound geriatric.

Ehh
