Compelling. A thought provoking title.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

There was A-LOT going on in this story. Well defined characters seeking out their personal ambitions with single minded aplomb. A world saturated with descriptive narrative that seems to beckon you forward into its lore. Some characters face struggles that lead to victory and completion... Others face trials and tribulations that lead to the loss of everything they hold dear. The story is given voice by a man that seemingly lends the entirety of his being into the telling. Honestly, Nigel Peever, EXCELLENT performance. I will be looking into other potential titles this man has narrated.

I have two gripes for this title. Only two. Number 1: Why is the soundtrack so overpowering?? A lesser narrator would have been strongly suppressed in some parts of the book. Number 2 is more in my own inability to understand the way the minds of certain characters work as they face certain events in the book. Their choices were surprising, their thought processes unexpected. It made me stop and ask "WHAT? WHY?!"... Oddly enough though, it drew me further into the narrative rather than disconnecting me from the story.

Should you find yourself in the mood for a good "Earthy" fantasy tale, I would highly recommend "Dark Oak".

Nigel Peever, Thank you sir for the life you breathed into your reading.
Jacob Sannox, Thank you for sharing your world with us. I know that I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great Listen

Fantasy books are outside my typical genre, but I was attracted to this book Dark Oak by Jacob Sannox due to the narrator Nigel Peever. The storyline pulled me in, the sound effects were great, and the narration was superb. Nigel Peever really is amazing in this listen. He adds the right emotions, and has distinguished voices. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.

Great listen

If you like Lord of the Rings and that line of fantasy books, you'll defiantly enjoy listening to this. It even comes with sound effects and a really good voice performer
who can really get you hooked by the first sentence and is exceptionally good. Shoot, he could probably be Sauron or Gandolf, if he wanted and no one would be the wiser.
So if you get the chance to listen, do so and enjoy.

Epic Fantasy

What a wonderful fantasy story! It’s a very entertaining story with a unique twist on the typical good vs evil battle. It’s cleverly written and had me hooked from the beginning. The narration is OFF THE HOOk! Nigel Peever was freaking fantastic! He really brought the story to a whole new level. It has a Lord of The Rings feel to it. The sound effects are expertly done can’t wait for the next book

Wasn't for me

The best part of this book was the narration. Nigel Peever did an excellent job with each of the character voices. My only complaint with the audio is all of the sound effects. I didn't mind them so much and enjoyed it some of the time, but there were times when it got to be a bit much and almost overshadowed the narration. I found myself concentrating more on the sounds than on the narration. The story itself was just too slow. It seemed like it was going nowhere and taking it's sweet time getting there. I gave this a good 4 hours of listening time before I just had to give up. Sadly, I did not finish.

This story starts off a little slow but then it picks up pace rapidly. The narrator immerses you into the tale flawlessly.

Sound effects are SO good!

I absolutely love this book especially with the sound effects - they really sell the characters and settings.

So much unique fun!

Let’s start with “what an entertaining audiobook!” The music, the sounds, the effects all combined to create the fantastic world that is dark oak. I count myself a traditionalist in terms of audiobooks and don’t typically lean towards fully produced books but it only took a short time to adjust and then I settled in for an enjoyable listen. The writing was clear and engaging, the characters believable, and the word choices advanced. The narration, done by Mr. Peever, was excellent and very easy and enjoyable to listen to.
I do recommend this book to listeners of all ages, 13+.
Lastly, I was offered this title in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Very interesting story

This story starts off a little slow a little hard to flow. After about the first hour it all starts to make sense.
Nigel Peever's rich voice brought characters to life with the sound effects.
A must listen too.
