Erik has killed men.
Death haunts his dreams.
Fate has chosen its path for Erik Eleodum...or has it? The pain of killing seems to overwhelm him as he grows more and more distant from his brother and his cousin, and he turns into the very person he once loathed...a thief, a mercenary, a killer, and a hero.
Erik must not only face dwarves, murderers, slavers, dragons, and the undead, but also face his fears...the darkness that has been hidden deep inside of him.
Take a journey that will shatter worlds, stain hands red with blood, test faith, question loyalties, make strong men weak, and weak men brave.
The world is changing and a great evil is rising, all carried by dark winds!

I love the story but, hate the vulgarity that in my opinion was really not necessary and just seemed out of sync with the storyline. The language just wasn’t believable even with the worst of the characters.
Had the first book started out that way I would have returned it and asked for my money back. I thought about it with the second book as well.
That really is my only issue otherwise I love the story line, the narrator does a good job bringing Patterson’s characters to life. I will get the next book to finish out the trilogy just not sharing it with my grandkids while in the car!

the 3 main characters are cardboard cutouts. you have the moody entitled ass hat, the 1 that's useless and has to be saved Every-freaking time. and the so called over thinker, for example... yes the guy he kills rapes and murder's toddlers but spends 30 min with Eric crying for the toddler the slaver used to be.. the story tries too hard in all the wrong ways to give a moral conundrum. it's just silly. the names of places and peoples of the story land are named all kinds of goofie ways , just because and I couldn't figure out who was doing what or why . it read as if the author was had a large world built in his head but never explained it in the 2 books I read . this was so frustrating to read but I had hoped it would get better , it never did..
as for the audio book .. what the hell is up with the constant noise files, off sea gulls and crappy music bites. it ruined what little immersion I was able to get... I will Not be getting book 3.. it read like my 9 year old tells his stories..
A rambling mess.
