Publisher's summary

Archie Andrews tries the new cologne his new girlfriend gave him for his birthday. He goes out to get some food for his birthday party and is later found dead near the vicinity of his apiary.

With no clues, no suspects, and no idea how he died, the Suffolk constabulary call their consulting lateral-thinking private detective to assist them in their investigation.

However, John Handful has a conflict of interests. The new girlfriend of the victim happens to be his ex, Kimberley Ashlyn Gere.

A wonderful mystery

Glad I stuck with the series after book 2. This was the best of the series so far and the best narration. I did not want to put it down and binged it as FA’s as I could.

This book was provided free for review, however, the thoughts are my own.

A short, quality mystery

As a disclaimer, I was offered a copy of this book for the sake of an honest review.

The writing is faithful to the rest of the John Handful mysteries, this time venturing much closer to detective Handful's personal life. The result is a lot of character development, which is good and paves the way to the following works. The mystery in itself is a little simple, serving more as a background to John Handful's musings at times.

It remains a good book, as long as one's expectations are set on the right objective.

Anthony Goring's performance as a narrator is stellar, giving this short piece of mystery a good, reflective tone that sets the character perfectly.
