About this listen

Death shall come on swift wings to whoever desecrates this tomb....

Ishmael Jones and his partner Penny have been summoned to remote Cardavan House, home of the world’s largest private collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts, for the unveiling of George Cardavan’s latest acquisition: a bone fide Egyptian mummy.

When a bloodstained body is discovered beside the empty sarcophagus, Ishmael is dismissive of the theory that the mummy’s curse is to blame. Instead he sets out to uncover the human killer responsible. But how can Ishmael explain the strange, shuffling footsteps that creep along the corridors? Who is playing games with them...and why?

Performed by Scott McCormick, Laura C Harris, Steve Wannall, Jessica Lauren Ball, Andy Brownstein, Bradley Smith, Nanna Ingvarsson, Lawrence Redmond, Nick DePinto, Carolyn Kashner, Zoe Badovinac.

Can’t describe how awesome this is

I love how this series piles it on. An alien solving murder mysteries in haunted lodges!

More of the same

All of these stories are the same. Ishmael and his girlfriend/partner Penny go to an English country house where they are trapped with a supernatural killer who picks them off one by one. The author makes some jokes about the similarity of these circumstances so it is not avoided, but by this 4th book, it is starting to wear a bit thin. Penny was always annoying but her dialogue is so nonsensical at times that it defies belief. In the middle of a fight or a chase she'll start a deep philosophical discussion about nothing as if that were the time! She has the same "catch phrases" that are meant to be endearing like "Elementary, my dear Watson", but are just annoying, like the author couldn't be bothered and just hit the macro key "phrase A". The production was good, but I don't think I can bear any more of this vapid female who never shuts up and whose only value in a fight is to stand still and look good. Ishmael, honey, trade up.

These are all the same

So far every book in the series is the same. I despise the dramatization and the main narrator's voice is annoying to me. I prefer the previous narrator. I was able to listen to the regular versions until this one. Since I am listening for free I can live with them, but never buy one.
