Publisher's summary

If you haven’t already fallen in love with this internationally acclaimed series by M. C. Beaton, then this cunningly crafted mystery will do the trick. Loaded with authentic Scots dialog vivid enough to make you smell the heather-scented air, Death of a Macho Man is Beaton at her best.

Hamish Macbeth - Lochdubh’s one-man police force - has suddenly become a prime murder suspect when a belligerent newcomer turns up dead. To save his career, Macbeth must delve into this Macho Man’s unsavory past.

Suddenly, suspects are everywhere: a salty fisherman, a reclusive romance writer, a respectable matron, a restaurateur's wife, and even Hamish’s ex-fiancee, Priscilla Halburton-Smythe, and her newest boyfriend.

Fast-paced and loaded with quirky characters, Death of a Macho Man enhances Beaton’s glowing reputation.

love these stories; their characters make me smile in their humanness.

Wonderful fun read. The casual, bumbling, heroic? Ham is hand his exploits entertain and bring back the sense of goodness in humanity.

A Light Read in These Heavy Times

Lately I’ve tried to find books that were light hearted to keep my mind off todays headlines. This story was just what I needed. The writer described the Highlands beautifully and the reader brought it home. I enjoyed the characters and the ending left me wanting more.

Excellent story and narration

One of Beaton’s best. Exceptionally written and well done. Such a tale! I love her satire and no one is exempt from her pen, from over zealous preachers, politicians, cops, kids, old people, to the far left or right. She spares no one she has a real beef with the overweight and equally the boney “never too thin”minded. I mostly enjoy her lack of PC musings. Most entertaining! May she RIP she will be missed. Narrator is very good.

wonderful story as always!

This was a wonderful story! I always enjoy Hamish Macbeth's adventures and his maverick ways. The way these books are written, and the narrator who performs them, make these very wonderful audiobooks! While I could get these in Braille, I choose not to, because the listening experience is so much better. I cannot wait to read the next one!

Wow

A great one! Murder, suspense and characters who are not what they seem. Hamish is very clever and his Sergeant is a crazy person. I hope they put that man away

I love this series!

I can’t stop listening to this series! The author has made the characters so alive to me, that I feel like I’m living down the lane from them. And the stories are clever.

Great as usual.

Nothing like a Hamish Macbeth story to make you smile & wish you were in The Highlands.... and that the stories could go on forever.
