Publisher's summary

A classic title from M. C. Beaton's New York Times best-selling Hamish Macbeth series.

Believing that someone is trying to murder her, gorgeous Jane Wetherby asks Hamish Macbeth to spend Christmas with her and an exclusive group of friends at her Scottish island health farm. With a cold in his head and no place to go for the holidays, Hamish accepts her invitation. He thinks the lady is a bit daft, but, arriving on the lonely isle of Eileencraig, he feels a prickle of foreboding. The locals are openly threatening; the other guests, especially a terrible snob named Heather Todd, are barely civil. So when Heather meets an untimely end, Hamish knows he doesn't have far to look for the culprit. The only snag in his investigation is that all the guests were in the house when Heather vanished. Now, as mysterious events abound on Eileencraig, Hamish must work through the holiday sniffles to find the killer - or else it will be a very miserable Christmas indeed.

Christmas at a Health Farm

Poor Hamish Macbeth has a cold in his head, time on his hands and although he was looking forward to a Christmas at home with his parents and younger siblings, even there he has been disappointed. An aunt from the United States has decided to visit his parents for Christmas. It seems that this aunt, who can't stand Hamish, has been very generous to the Macbeth family, so Hamish must sit this Christmas out. His leave already put in for the holidays, he is moping around when Jane Wetherby drops by for a visit. A friend of Priscilla Halburton-Smythe, Jane has gotten wind of Hamish and his expert skills at solving murders, and she tells Hamish that someone is trying to kill her. With no Christmas plans, Hamish agrees to accompany Jane Wetherby to her posh Health Farm on the isle of Eileencraig in order to protect her. There he meets an unlikely bunch of whiners, rich folks and clannish islanders. It isn't long, however, until one of the visitors, Heather Todd is found dead, fallen over the cliff. Now the real work begins for Hamish. He's convinced that it is murder. The locals want to sweep it under the rug and get back to their holiday. Can Hamish prove that someone helped the snobby Heather Todd over the edge? Excellent addition to the series. And the conclusion to the story will leave you wanting more. 😊

Laughed out loud!

Another fun whodunnit in the Hamish Macbeth series. This one has some added humor from the locals. In 2020 Hamish couldn't get away with some of his remarks, but he says what he pleases and sometimes it makes me lol! A nice escape village mystery.

I've just been in holiday

I love the Hammish Mac Beth series and have read several. This is the first time I've listened to one of the books. Delightful and Scottish accents add to the wonderful descriptions of Scotland.

Another enjoyable episode

Another enjoyable episode. Hamish & Priscilla’s timing always seems to be off. Perhaps they should simply decide to be friends.

Tough one to solve.

I like the variety of the solving of the crimes. A bit of a rollercoaster for the constable's love life though. good book and good narration by Shaun.

Christmas in the Highlands at a Health Farm

Our intrepid Scottish constable is uninvited for Christmas by his family so he accepts an offer by an overly flirtatious friend of his former flame, Pricilla, to spend the holidays at her health spa. A motley assortment of guests color the proceedings and someone is trying to murder the hostess!
A highly improbable lark and fun diversion read in a lilting brogue.
