Publisher's summary

"One of the best long-running SF series in existence" (Publishers Weekly) continues with the second novel in a brand-new Foreigner sequence.

The civil war among the alien Atevi has ended. Tabini-aiji, powerful ruler of the Western Association, along with Cajeiri, his son and heir, has returned to the Bujavid, his seat of power. But factions that remain loyal to the opposition are still present, and the danger these rebels pose is far from over.

C J Cherryh is the BEST!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I certainly would. The plot is so very interesting. I finished it at one go. Didn't sleep all night finishing at daybreak.

I love Daniel Thomas May's performance. He made the characters come to life!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes indeed. I got o engrossed that I forego sleep just to complete the book.

Any additional comments?

the 2nd book in the 4th sequence

This is again not really a review because the full review is in the first book int eh sequence, but this whole group of books has still stayed good all the way up to this point and to be honest at the end as well, or up to the 15th book as of this review that's all that's out now.

Just not enough happens

I think there is too much time spent in the same pleasantries being said over and over and over and not enough progression in the plot. The story so far is not even on book's worth and there is a lot of padding that could be cut here.

Performance is a good as ever.

Ending pretty abrupt.

E veryone starts getting their due, finally, and it is delicious! Daniel Thomas May narrates with style, as usual.

Seamless continuation

The story continues... Bren continues to be pivotal in the story as is the Dowager and the heir. Well paced, still exciting. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Poof, it just ended!

What made the experience of listening to Deceiver the most enjoyable?

There is a lot going on in this installment, and the story was moving along when all of a sudden it just ended. It was really strange, at first I thought I had skipped a chapter or two but I checked and nope, I had just gotten to the end. But there was no summing up or winding down of the story, it was just poof. We hope you've enjoyed this Audible book..... WTH?

Has Deceiver turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I will continue the series.

Have you listened to any of Daniel Thomas May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, in other books in the series. This one was just as good.

Mildly disappointed

Would you try another book from C. J. Cherryh and/or Daniel Thomas May?

While this book is not the strongest entry in the series I will continue to read more books by this author.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The ending was very abrupt. I felt like I was in the middle of the story and found out several pages were missing.

Have you listened to any of Daniel Thomas May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The preformance was on par with his usual high quality.

Do you think Deceiver needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The deciever is a link in a series and I would feel betrayed if there wasn't more to tie up the dangling threads of the story lines.

Any additional comments?

Deciever was a mild disappointment for me. The storyline dragged a little and the ending was so abrupt that I was in disbelief when the audible credits came on. If it hadn't been in the middle of the series I would not reccommend it. The poor ending colored the rest of the book for me.
