Publisher's summary

Eli Oleson killed a man. Never mind that he did it to save the lives of others, it’s eaten his soul to shreds. Nothing matters. When he injures himself breaking a horse, he has little reason to recover, except for the feisty English nurse who keeps pestering him.

Anne Hammond is a skilled nurse, trained in curing the sick and treating the wounded, but some wounds don't heal as easily. She's seen war and heartache and left England for the American West to forget the images that haunt her. When a cowboy, broken in more ways than she can see, winds up on her examining table, will she be skilled enough to assist in his healing? Or will his wounds only open the ones she thought she'd left behind?

Two hurting souls, wanting to do it their way find that they don't have to do it alone.

A story of an injured man struggling to forgive himself and how he leans on his nurse who struggles with the same problem. Interesting story focusing on another brother in the series.

Guilt and Forgiveness

Forgiving someone for a wrong is not always easy, but forgiving oneself is often much harder. Coping with feelings of guilt and shame can manifest as belligerence or aggressiveness as one tries to tune out others. But, taken in context, many perceived errors are, in fact, the only possible solution; sometimes it is necessary to cause harm in one area in order to protect something of greater value. Both Ann and Eli are convinced their involvements in another's death are a result of their own wrongdoing. Together they are able to regain perspective on their issues. This tale concludes the trilogy. Like the other stories, it stands well on his own, although I would recommend reading all three, in order, for maximum enjoyment of the greater story arc and appreciation of the interrelationships among the novels.

Finding Forgiveness and Love

Eli Oleson can’t get past killing a man even though he did so to save the women that would one day be his sister-in-laws. Nurse Anne Hammond can’t get past the guilt that one of her patients killed another man in a fit of jealousy over her. She is tasked with taking care of Eli after he is attacked by a wolf when he was angry and reckless trying to break a horse on his own. Taking care of him brings back bad memories for her. They help to heal each other, but their path to romance is far from smooth. They both have to forgive themselves first.

The narrator has a nice even tone with inflections and voice changes in all the right places.

Brothers of Belle Fourche, book 3

Deep Longing Of The Soul by Kari Trumbo

Book 3 - Brothers of Belle Fourche series

Anne is a nurse that has traveled from England to Belle Fourche, South Dakota. She is running from her past. Eli is wrestling with guilt from killing a man, but it was to save the lives of Isabelle and Stepenia.

Eli is attacked by a wolf - does it have rabies? He is suffering from a broken leg and the bite. Anne is nursing him. He cannot leave the clinic for three weeks waiting to see if symptoms of rabies present themselves.

The story flows well and the narration is very good. I read this book prior to books one and two. It stands alone, but it would have been advantageous to have read the series in order.

I received this audiobook free with no requirement of review. I am reviewing this book of my own accord and am giving my honest opinion.

Loved This Sweet Story!

This story really touched my heart. Eli and Anne were so perfect for each other. My heart went out to each of them and the author did such an amazing job of dealing with their self doubt and the guilt they felt for the circumstances they had experienced and had to live with. They were both such honorable souls and I found myself wanting to give each of them comfort at one point or the other throughout the story. I really loved this story and look forward to what the author has in store for us in the next book in this wonderful series. As usual, J. Scott Bennett did a fabulous job with the narration. It is always such a pleasure to listen to him tell the story with his various voices and emotions. I received a free copy of this audiobook and have voluntarily provided an unbiased review.

Uplifitng and heart warming

The combination of Kari Trumbo and J Scott Bennett is one I love. I always know I will be in for a heart warming listen. When Eli is hurt by a horse he is training, he is thinking there is nothing worth getting better for. Carrying the guilt of killing a man, though to save others is doing him in. When his nurse, Anne comes to take care of him, things begin to change. Can this nurse from England heal the cowboy both physically and emotionally? Their story is sweet, full of a little banter and gives us hope. I love Anne with her common sense attitude. She is working through her own issues, and with the help of Eli, these two broken souls, with faith, hope and love help mend each other. Kari's stories stem from real issues, and though I can escape into their world, I love taking the message with me.

J Scott Bennett is perfect for the roles in the book. He has a soothing quality to his voice, giving that sense of peace as he reads. I love his surly attitude that he instills in Eli and the strong confidence in Anne. It's a great listen.

PTSD

I didn’t expect Anne to also experience trauma that was somewhat similar to Eli. When she was introduced in book 2, never in my wildest dreams did I think she had such heavy baggage on her back. I suppose it was the kindred spirit feeling that allowed those two to find comfort and given them the push to heal. I loved the flow of the story. It was hard to see how even medical doctors back then didn’t know how to treat mental trauma. It fascinated me how Anne had an innate idea about how to go about it.

Wonderful story to listen to

Sweet story of nurse Anne falling for one of the Oelsons brothers. Enjoyed how she started nursing and helped birthing babies along the way. The way she falls in love is refreshing and new. Love the narrator and hope he continues on with more of karis books!!

The angst of longing.

l felt like l was listening to one of the townsfolks older characters telling this story from his past. His voice sounds like l imagine a doctor from that time could sound. The story line was also true to the times and highlighted for me the caring and dedication of the nurse and wounded mens struggles. l turned the narrations speed up to 105%. for my own enjoyment.
l am looking forward to more in this series of good, clean cut, wholesome books by Kari.
