Publisher's summary

Allie Rydell left her life behind to protect the world from the Goddess of Night. But after weeks of training, hunting, and learning to use the life-giving power that inexplicably chose her, saving Midgard seems more impossible than ever. Nott's followers have eyes across the realms, and they're determined to collect the bounty on Allie's soul. And the closer Allie and her protectors get to the pieces of the immortal weapon that could save them all, the more destruction Nott manages to unleash - not only on the world Allie loves, but on the friends she'd give her life to save.

Darkness is coming. And this time, it won't leave any survivors.

Pretty good.

The narrator does a great job on the female voices but the voice she does for Tore was very choppy
and breathless. I had to slow down the speed just so he doesn't sound oriental. That was hard to get over but I didn't let it stop me from. finishing or loving the series so far. Also, NO love triangle!!

Fantastic

Book 2 was as enjoyable as the first one... I found myself wishing a couple times that Allie would stop being so melodramatic. But overall loved it and now waiting for the next book/ audio.

Mispronunciation triggers pet peeves

While I enjoyed the story, the mix of imagination and Norse mythology was refreshing, the narrator’s mispronunciation of Nidavellir and the MMC’s name frustrated me and detracted from my enjoyment of the story. The name issue bothered me enough in the first book to look up how the authors spelled his name. The narrator opted to pronounce Tore (Torr) as Toré (Tor-ray). It gave a book entwined with Norse mythology a distinctly French feel. Then, Nidavellir (sigh). Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and their visit to Nidavellir (Need-a-vell-ir) in the Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, I had an idea that was how the place should be pronounced. Maybe MCU got it wrong. If so, I apologize, but it will always be Need-a-vell-ir in my mind. Every time the narrator pronounced these words/names in a way I felt wasn’t right, my brain would screech to a halt and autocorrect. But, that broke me out of the smooth flow of the story every time. I am only leaving this review because if you never speak up, then problems can’t be identified and fixed.

Otherwise, the story was enjoyable. It made me remember sitting on my grandfather’s lap as he read me stories of Thor, and Asgard, and Odin and the other gods from the “Books of Knowledge”. He gave me a love of mythology, Norse or Greek. This book series nudged those fond memories of early childhood (I was 3-5 years old when he started reading me these mythical tales).
