About this listen
The war for Acktar has begun. With his betrayal revealed, former Blade Leith Torren flees into the Sheered Rock Hills, pursued by King Respen's vengeful Blades. Left behind at Nalgar Castle, Renna Faythe tries to find her purpose, yet that purpose isn't what she expected. Brandi Faythe has been torn from her sister, and that isn't all right. If Leith can't rescue Renna, Brandi will take matters into her own hands. War demands sacrifice. Courage falters. Who will find the strength to defy King Respen? Acktar rests on one hope: The Leader is ready.

Story
Courage could cost him everything. Third Blade Leith Torren never questions his orders or his loyalty to King Respen until an arrow wound and a prairie blizzard drive him to the doorstep of the girls whose family he once destroyed. Their forbidden faith and ties to the Resistance could devastate their family a second time. Survival depends on obedience, but freedom beckons. How far does he dare go to resist the king and his Blades? No matter what Leith chooses, one thing is certain. Someone will die.

The human kingdom of Escarland and the elven kingdom of Tarenhiel have existed in an uneasy peace after their last wars ended with both kings dead. As tensions rise once again, desperate diplomacy might be the only way to avert war. If only negotiations between elves and humans were that simple. When a diplomatic meeting goes horribly wrong, Essie, a human princess, finds herself married to the elf prince and warrior Laesornysh. Magic is forbidden throughout the Five Provinces; those born with it are hunted and killed. Sable doesn't know her music holds power over souls, not until, at age nine, she plays her flute before the desert court and accidentally stops her baby sister's heart, killing her. Horrified by what she's done and fearing for her life, she flees north, out of Provincial jurisdiction and into the frigid land of exiles and thieves, known as The Wilds. There, Sable lives in hiding, burdened by guilt, and survives as a healer. But now, 10 years later, someone, or something, is hunting her.

Story
Gender-fluid Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and to get closer to the nobles who destroyed home. So when auditions to become a member of The Left Hand - the Queen's personal assassins - are announced, Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge. But a childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the audition: a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers.

A solid non-magical fantasy series
Okay, some fans can shoot me, but Brandy was even more annoying in this book than the others. I really, really wanted to love her but I thought she acted like a brat and whined a lot after the first third. I liked her in the first third.
I really enjoyed all the rest of the book. When Brandy wasn't in the story, I found it powerful, emotional, and powerful. The narrator did a fantastic job. I recommend this series.
Warnings: Some extended torture scenes. There is romance and I thought it was done well, there were a couple of kisses, but they were not overly described and were very sweet. Also, there are two characters (one main character and one briefly mentioned) who dress up as boys so they can fight in the war.

best book in the world!!!
I adore this book its amazing! its my favorite one. the one thing that I loved was that it showed how loving and brave the characters were. they were so courageous. I really liked the narrator too! he made the characters voices sound just how they should. the only thing I disliked was brandy! she was such a brat in this book, I liked her a lot better in the first two. the first two she was so energetic and sweet, I this one she was so Immature. trust me on this you will love it!!!!
