About this listen

In a world where darkness lurks, one girl's fate will shatter centuries of stagnation.

Elania's life takes an unexpected turn when demon-worshiping cultists summon her to their world, aiming to revive their dead god. When their hated foe strikes, she escapes into Eladu's darkest depths.

Amidst savage predators and underground monsters, Elania discovers her newfound abilities are both a formidable ally and a haunting burden that threatens to reshape her very soul.

To climb higher towards civilization means she must contend with anti-demon sentiment and those who would use her as a source of arcane power. But Elania is not alone in her struggles.

Yolani, an arcane artificer, battles a sinister plot and finds her fate inexplicably linked to Elania's. Together, they might just be the key to each other's survival.

Only one thing is certain: Elania isn't going to give up who she is without a fight.

Ascent? More like, Dark Descent

I have to admit, I was initially worried as the story began, with the main character (Elania) appearing timid and reluctant to fight. Given the title "Demon," I was expecting a touch of darkness and sinister behavior, and thankfully, the story delivered. I wouldn't call the main character truly evil, but as she develops, she isn't afraid to do what needs to be done, and at times, she even enjoys it—which I found quite satisfying. It's all too common to see a dark character archetype that shies away from doing the necessary (evil) deeds. That said, the main character still tries to act the goodie-two-shoes, but this often ends with her consuming someone—or five. Additionally, the story introduces a girl-love theme later in the book, which might appeal to some readers and displease others. I, for one, am curious to see how Elania's relationship develops in Book 2.

Technical cat girl

Outside of the two stories in one that takes up 2/3 of the book, I love how we get a cat girl without having a cat girl 90% of the time, and a panther the other 10

Good, but..

I forgot how much I dislike this narrator. No idea why really, I just find her voice annoying, I have to listen to it in short segments.

Lengthy book but not bad.

It took forever and i was going at 3.50 speed on audible. I found myself looking how far i had gotten every so often. Not bad but it felt stagnent at some places. Mc kept getting attached to the worst characters up untill the end there. I dont think i have a deacent understanding of the magic system in this book its just so vague. My thanks to the narrrators who did a great job.

Enjoyable

The story does move rather quickly, which makes me somewhat curious how it will scale in future books. The two MCs' names are pretty similar, which can be harder to distinguish at higher speeds.

mostly fantastic, a few moments of disappointment

Many modern stories seek to portray ideals of homosexuality in a specific way. That way is usually unnatural and quite disturbing because of how handily it falls in line with modern multimedia and attempts at conditioning public views. While my comment is not against homosexuality as it truly exists, I would prefer stories make less of an effort to portray homosexual relationships as if they were the theme of the story. If they are the theme of the story they should just advertise the story that way.

This story is really fantastic from front to end, but it gave me a few moments where I feared the author might go down the path others have gone when homosexuality was mentioned. There was adventure, a balanced sense of justice, hope, and just enough love that the protagonist was not unrealistically too ideal. There is also quite a bit of killing and death, along with restraint to demonstrate that even ones apparent enemies are often just people with deep misunderstandings and sins that can be repented of. There were also a few moments when the story went a little slow, so overall I can't say it's the best story I've ever listened to but it was pretty good!

College girl turned demoness.

Although it's not too far off some sorority girls I've seen, they aren't fighting for their lives in a dungeon wearing a new body.
The MC gains power by killing living things and sucking out their energy.
Great story!
I hope there's a book 2.
I'm giving this book 8 out of 5 stars.

Gay Demoness Cat Girl!

I absolutely loved this book! The performance was fantastic, and the story had me completely hooked—I could hardly tear myself away. But, I do have a couple of tiny knitpicky observations:

1. **Character Names**: Okay, so both main characters have names with "LANI" in them. Not a huge deal, but when they're spoken aloud, they sound very similar. My brain had to do a little dance to keep up. Maybe a touch more distinctiveness in their names would've been nice.

2. **Plot Twist**: There's this moment in the book where it feels like the plot does a 180. It caught me off guard, like when you're dancing and suddenly the music changes. Not bad, just unexpected.

In summary, this book is a gem. Despite my nitpicks, I'm eagerly awaiting the second installment. And shout-out to the author for the LGBTQ+ representation! 🌈 Also, that cat form was absolutely adorable! 😻
