Publisher's summary

A new race rules Earth, and they are brutal.

More beautiful than we ever were, they are like gods. Strong. Fierce. Savage. How can a lone young woman survive against the brutality? Can humanity survive?

Shanice is one of the few humans left. But for how long? The arena rings with screams for her death. Soon the gates will open, and she’ll face a man who must kill her or be killed. He wields the advantage, with weapons to hurl, while she will have only her inner passion to keep her alive through the next few minutes.

Shanice is trapped in a horror world ruled by a “more perfect” race, and has no idea how the world got like this. Survival is her only focus. If only she knew that in that screaming throng around her is one man who wants to see her live. He just may hold the key to rocking the world to the core and giving humanity the chance to find a way back.

If an advanced race was created by humankind, would they care for their creators?

This post-apocalyptic thriller is set in a future which is alarmingly near.

Not for me

I simply could not get into this book. I restarted it 3 times, wondering if I'd missed some hook. It just didn't stick with me. I couldn't care what happened to the characters. The plot seemed to wander from place to place.

I did manage to finish the book, and followed it, but it felt like something I was reading for a class, more than for pleasure.

The narrator didn't help either. They didn't seem to be into it, even while reading.

I like the concept of the book, and was looking forward to it. Hopefully it finds the right audience, I simply wasn't it.

I received a copy of this book at my request in exchange for a fair review.

Futuristic Dystopian

I have to admit not my favorite dystopian book but held my attention due to the characters both humans and the ES. The ES want to destroy all humans but what would happen they would run out of spare parts. Enjoyed Giselle, Luke, Jon and Shanice, it was long but well written. Recommend if you enjoy really futuristic dystopian. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

Super unique plot

This book is highly original. Mr. Bowman has come up with a new idea to me - a small group of humans that are genetically engineered to be better, stronger, smarter, and how they eventually commit genocide on 99.9 percent of the "regular humans" and enslave the few that are left. (Not a spoiler - you learn this quickly.) I can see this being made into a television series. I would definitely watch it. It's got gladiators and medical experiments and underwater travel and survivors in the Himalayans and people living in cages within a high-tech futuristic world.
I really, really enjoyed the first 85%. I struggled with the last 15% but it could be just the fact that I need a happy ending. There are a ton of good ideas in this book. I think the author struggled a little to pull them all together in the end but it's definitely worth reading.
I really wanted the humans to come out on top. I need a happy ending. I'm confused about who's the hero and who's the villain. Luke's personality seemed to shift and I'm still not sure if Jon is a hero or if his brain was altered? Did Dillon live? What happened to Shanice? Giselle isn't going to get away with all of that, is she? When do the humans make a comeback?
Daedryn did a great job reading. I sped it up to 145% speed because his reading was very slow but he gave a solid performance. (I didn't like Shanice's oddly southern accent but, hey, we can't have everything.)
I requested and was provided this audiobook to review.

Not as expected

Very juvenile language, has a feel of soft core pornography/bad romance novel written by a teenager. Voice also sounded like soft core porn and I was embarrassed to listen in my car with windows down at a stoplight just with the voice of the performer. Definitely could not finish this. Was a decent premise but what a disappointment.
