Lars er et smut inde i supermarkedet på Algade. Her kort før jul er der virkelig trængsel. Pludselig afbrydes hverdagen af hvinende bilhjul og sirener. Bilerne er standset uden for Sparekassen på den anden side af gaden.
Lars skynder sig ud af butikken. Udenfor får han fat i nogle enkelte oplysninger: Der er begået et fantastisk bankkup, og politiet står uden spor af forbryderne. Da Lars senere på dagen sidder sammen med sine venner, går det op for ham, at han selv sidder inde med et afgørende spor.
Lars er en stor knægt, der sammen med sine tre bedste venner, Mette, Charlotte og Jørgen, kommer ud for lidt af hvert. Så snart vennerne får færten af et mysterium, kan de ikke lade være med at løse det. "Lars & co." henvender sig til børn og unge fra 11-årsalderen. Jens Jørgensen (f. 1942) er en dansk politiker og forfatter. Han har været rektor for Slagelse Gymnasium og HF-kursus og var borgmester i Slagelse mellem 1994 og 1998. Han sad desuden i Folketinget for Det Konservative Folkeparti mellem 1990 og 1998. Jens Jørgensen debuterede som forfatter med bogen "Stormagtsproblemer 1955-62" i 1974 og har siden udgivet en lang række bøger i forskellige genrer. Han står blandt andet bag ungdomskrimiserien "Lars & co." og den kontroversielle bog "H.C. Andersen - en sand myte", der fremsætter en ny teori om den store digters herkomst.
