Publisher's summary

Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime.

To avoid spending her life in prison, Quinn makes a run for it. She leaves behind her home, her job, and her family. She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she's done.

But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night.

Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn't the quiet safe haven it seemed to be. The motel has a dark and disturbing past. And in the dilapidated house across the way, the silhouette of Nick's ailing wife is always at the window. Always watching.

In the morning, Quinn must leave the motel. She'll pack up her belongings and get back on the road to freedom.

But first, she must survive the night.

Good story

Yet very difficult to listen since narrator made characters sound like toddlers or older people in distress

Loved it

When I first started this book, I thought it was copying the famous movie from 1960, Psycho. Pretty lady running from committing a crime lands in a old dilapidated hotel with a house next to it with a seemingly nice but maybe odd guy running it and another mysterious women in the window of the house. Hmmmmm... sound familiar to any Psycho fans. I still thought I might like it though. Fortunately, it had it's own plot which while not too hard to figure out mostly, was still quite an enjoyable listen.

Queen of plot twists

Once again, Freida did not disappoint! Just when I think I'm losing interest, she finds a jaw-dropping way to reel me back in. Very good!

Wow

I love finding a free audible listen from the goddess of mystery and suspense Freida McFadden.

DO NOT DISTURB had me wondering whom I could trust. I could imagine each character as being good or evil. I was right in some instances, wrong in others.

I’m glad I didn’t know too much going into DO NOT DISTURB as the description doesn’t seem like the type of book I’d like. I didn’t just like DO NOT DISTURB, I loved it.

With twists and turns that keep you guessing … you won’t be disappointed. Another great title by this author. Characters are relatable and believable. Ending was a tightly tied bow. Bravo

Great little story!

This was a great little story that kept me entertained while I worked in my garden for the last couple of days. I was happy to give the story five stars. Now, I gave the performance only two stars which may not sound fair because overall the narration was great. Here's the one issue that I had and I really hope that the reader reads this and takes my complaint into consideration. I literally had zero problems with anything that she said or any way that she pronounced, annunciated, or inflected anything throughout the book except for one word, which unfortunately was said around a dozen times throughout the story. The word is masseuse. Not a difficult word to pronounce, right? As most everyone knows, the English pronunciation of masseuse is muh-soos with the emphasis on the second syllable. The way to pronounce in French is meh-sooz, with the emphasis on the first syllable and a nasal, back of the throat sound on the 'eh'. The reader of this book said ma-sooz, with the emphasis on the first syllable, in effect combining both the English and French way of pronouncing it, but with a completely English accent. If the entire book was read with a French accent, the narrator pronouncing it in French fashion would be acceptable, if she pronounced it with the correct French pronunciation. However, though there were no accents whatsoever throughout this entire book, the reader continually pronounced the word masseuse incorrectly. How does one even justify pronouncing a word that is so common and well known in the English language incorrectly? Why? Why would her producers allow that to happen? When it happened the first time I thought it was odd, but when it continued to happen and she also had several different characters say the word incorrectly, I realized that she is just ignorant on how to pronounce it correctly. Could it truly be that everyone elsein the production of this book also does not know how to pronounce the word masseuse correctly? I know this is a very small thing and I shouldn't get so worked up about it, but for some reason hearing that word mispronounced over and over and over again was like fingers on a chalkboard. It's really inexcusable, and for that reason I could only give the performance of the book 2 stars. I was tempted to go one, but I'm going to give the reader the benefit of the doubt that she might learn from this and try harder to pronounce words correctly from here forward.
