…but poor execution. I love a good long book, especially a Doctor Who one like Harvest of Time (Third Doctor), Shada (Fourth Doctor), or Ice Wheel (Second Doctor), but this was too long. Too many moving pieces and it just didn’t flow. Ace and the Doctor spent too much time separated and not enough working together. The pseudo-noir element with the detective felt forced.

All in all, if you are a Seventh Doctor and Ace fan you may love this one, otherwise you might want to pass this one by. The voice talent was good but his American accent could use some work as well as his Black American accent or whatever he was going for with Mama.

Great title and concept…

An excellent story for the Seventh Doctor, voiced beautifully by Sophie Aldred. While the story may be slow, the pace is kept up by eerie encounters with the Cybermen and two delightful side characters, both detectives. I feel the story promises to build up energy than it ultimately does, but the ending is climatic and satisfying. The cybermen share the role of antagonists with traditional Nazi soldiers and a wonderful twist villain, but are left enough room for a disturbing moment here or there that justifies their inclusion. The 7th Doctor, usually portrayed in his more manipulative stage, feels refreshingly less intense here, more akin to his season 25 portrayal. Ultimately, I wouldn’t want to sit down with this book, but the audio book form is far more comfortable to enjoy and perfect for this story. 7/10 for despicable villains and wonderful supporting cast.

A great detailed account of one of the Seventh Doctors many adventures. Great action, story line and large cast of characters keeping the Doctor on his toes, but finds the time to save the earth, as he always does.

Great story from the Seveth Doctor

As much as I would normally enjoy a story with Sylvester McCoy at the Doctor and Ace as the companion, this story was long and rambling with lots of unnecessary characters. I think a good editor would have been a wise here.
