Publisher's summary

Ten years after Alex and Aaron Stowe brought peace to Quill and Artimé, their younger twin sisters journey beyond Artimé in the second novel in the New York Times best-selling sequel series to The Unwanteds, which Kirkus Reviews called "The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter".

The Artiméans have suffered some devastating blows.

After years of peace, the recent daring adventure of twins Thisbe and Fifer Stowe have brought about dire consequences. Thisbe has been captured, Fifer is injured, and Sky is lost at sea. The twins’ older brother, Alex, head mage of Artimé, is paralyzed with fear of losing anyone else he loves. Fifer must convince him to finally trust her to help in the battle ahead now that their true enemy has been revealed.

Spoiler Alert. Don't read B4 "reading" the book.

I am so distraught at the mage's death. It was such a meaningless death. A coma maybe, but not deceased. I'll read the rest of the series, but I don't know if I can get over this one. It was bad enough when when the first one was killed... but this one is just too much!!! I loved most of the book until then. I have to admit that I am not sure now if I will finish the series. We'll just have to wait and see. 😟😢😥😡😠

Great story!

It was a great story, very exciting! However Fiona Hardingham I did not think was the best narrator. Simber's voice was definitely not correct. Otherwise a delightful listen!

My goodness.

I have been waiting to hear this book and it did not fail to meet my expectations. I was a bit heart broken at the folding events as I have come to love the characters in this series. Not going to give it away, but my heart was wrenched with last few words at the end. What now...can’t wait to read the next one. Great job, Lisa, great job indeed.

One critique

The voice of Simba sounds more like a southern belle rather than a ferocious cat. Other than that small thing the series is really great!

Great Continuation of the Story

This is a wonderfully heartbreaking book. It starts where the first DragonQuest book leaves off. The girls are separated and Skye is gone. Alex is determined to get Thisbe back while keeping Fifer safely tucked away in Artime. I'm still not used to the voices this narrator does but I do enjoy the story.

Each of the twins is growing and changing. They aren't together 24/7 anymore so they are having to learn to survive without each other. It was a truly good story that made me happy and sad. I wasn't sure I wanted to listen to more right after the story was done but now I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

It was a 5/5. I cannot wait for us to listen to the next book.

A downward turn from the original series

I was incredibly disappointed with this spin off series. For some reason, even though the twins stories start at the same age as Alex and Aaron’s, the girls are whinier, snottier, and quite frankly, dumber. The feminist in me shudders at how a young female is represented.

Worse still, is the narration voice. None of the accents are consistent, they vary wildly from the first SEVEN books (most annoying is the southern drawl Simba suddenly has), and the narration was so terrible I kept wanting to just turn it off.

Disappointing (spoiler)

The voice acting sets my ears ablaze simbers voice is absurd the reader needs to go back and listen to other books and copying the unwanteds death of the mage was completely pointless, a foolish decision that took away from the story rather than add to it
