Publisher's summary

For 16-year-old Nova Harris, the last nine years in Florida have been a constant stream of disappointment. With her father dead and her mother missing, she’s been shuffled from one foster home to another. The only connection Nova has to happier times is the strange dragon pendant that makes her yearn to reunite with her mother and have a family again.

Until a dragon lands at her feet - and offers to help find her mother.

Before they know it, Nova and her best friend Zephyr are whisked through a portal to Ragond, a realm sustained by powerful magic. Though Nova has no memory of this land, the fantastical inhabitants are well aware of her parents. Because of her family, in fact, Nova is invited to participate in the upcoming dragon rider trials, and Zephyr in the witch trials.

However, it soon becomes clear that various factions are threatened by the newcomers and want to send them back where they came from - by any means necessary. Further complications arise when Nova and Zephyr discover twin dragons…and unexpectedly bond with them.

Suddenly, Nova discovers she must choose between searching for her mother and protecting those she loves. And either choice risks embroiling them in an inter-dimensional war.

Queen of the Dragons' Ava Richardson invites you to immerse yourself in a dragon-filled world with epic magic, fearless characters, and, at its heart, the deep bond between dragon and rider.

Mystery, New World Old, and Dragons!

Nova was left by her mother whom said she would come back and never did. She became friends with Zephyr whose parents were killed in a car crash. Nova meets a dragon who when he came into the world became an oversized lizard who talks! Long story short Nova and Zephyr leave with the dragon to another world where she hopes to find her mother. Dragons are everywhere and there are also dragon riders. This is a fantastic read with twists and turns and a heroin who leaves you wanting to know more! An excellent book!!!!

What If You're Not Who You Think You Are?

I was introduced to Ava Richardson through her Alveria Dragon Akademy Untameables series, which I loved. When I heard about this book I jumped at the chance to listen to it and was thrilled that the narrator was the same one. The stories are well written and enjoyable, and Rebekah Nemethy brings the characters and action to life with her voice. Although the story is long, the time just flew by as I became engrossed in the story.

Nova Harris can be abrupt and quick to anger, but she's fiercely loyal to her best friend, Zephyr. When a komodo dragon shows up and starts talking to them while the two girls are away from their mutual foster home, Nova decides to go with him for a chance to find her mother. Zephyr declares, "Where you go, I go" and goes along, too. The komodo dragon turns into a real dragon and takes the girls through a portal from Earth to Ragond. Nova feels a bit guilty about having taken Zephyr away from everything she's ever known, but in truth, Zephyr finds herself in Ragond and is truly happy. Nova, on the other hand, has far more complicated feelings about everything, and she often finds herself in trouble for not knowing the rules of this new place, nor her own history within it.

I look forward to more of the Portal War stories. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

favorite in the series in a long time

I think the battles could be more detailed but the story itself was excellent, good plot twists.

really enjoyed!

The characters and their reactions are believable. I was a just a bit annoyed with how limited the information on the mother was. That was not quite as believable, someone should have been willing to provide some information.

Dragon Link

A wonderful story about a young woman who was living on earth unaware that she was going to find some dragon eggs and that she would help hatch them. She belongs on another world where there are dragons. First book is only a few months long. I am looking forward to the next book.
