This was such a fun listen.

It is as if this author wrote this book for me. This has everything that I enjoy in life, mythical sea creatures, cryptozoologists, important people on missing yachts, superheroes, conspiracies, and MIB. This was like every TV show I watch rolled into a fantastically intermingled story. The different pieces of the story are quite well intertwined and I really enjoyed every aspect of it. This was my first Dragon Man story but if they are all similar to this then I am on board.

Other than the president, who has a very brief part, I didn’t really have a strong emotion toward any of the characters. I actually didn’t care for Dragon Man at all and was ok that he wasn’t really the star of the story. It was really the pieces of the plot and the style that this was written that really got me excited. All the little references speckled throughout really made me smile. Once I started this I couldn’t stop. I can fully understand that this style isn’t for everyone, but as someone who loves bad tv and cheesy scifi, this really hit on a lot of my favorite topics. Not saying this is a bad or cheesy story, just has some of pieces often found in those stories.

Thames has a very deep and gritty voice, like turn the bass down deep. Definitely has a familiar quality like it would be a voice you would come across on a commercial. He didn’t provide character voices, but I was completely fine with that. While I like good character voices his cadence and inflection for the characters was sufficient.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Powerful but kinda confusing

What a voice! I didn't notice till after finishing that this was the 5th book in the series so some of the confusing mindsets of some main characters may make more sense if I caught up

Late night monster movie, but in book form.

Not really my cup of tea, narrator wasn't bad, and if he had been only one character would probably have been excellent, but as the only only voice characters did not distinguish well, and there were a few audio artifacts ( swallowing, and a few repeated lines). The whole thing reminded me of a late night monster move from the Sci-fi channel, "Attack of the giant...". If you love that genre of entertainment you'll probably really enjoy this.

Better than book 4

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

OK, so I decided to go ahead and give this book a try after feeling rather apathetic towards book 4. I'm more convinced with this book that DragonMan is just the "Universe" these books are set in and not really a central character to the general story contained in this book. The narrator for this book is a better choice as the setting and main character is an American. He has a gritty voice and did keep things interesting for me. I am inclined to agree with other reviewers that this is NOT a super hero story. More an X-Files/Fringe style one. That isn't a complaint, just an observation. I definitely liked this book far more than the last one. Still a bit underwhelmed, but I will admit to still being curious about the other books in the series. I wouldn't spend money on them at this point, but should they want more reviews, I'd certainly consider it.

A decent addition to the series

While the performance was a little cold and robotic, the story itself was a good continuation of the Dragon Man character. The story is interesting, but also tame enough for younger listeners.

Not a superhero story

I had trouble concentrating while listening, and almost did not finish the story, because it wasn't very interesting to me. I did not care for any of the characters. What's really strange is that Dragonman, after whom the book is titled, isn't even the main character of the story, a man named Brad is. Brad is sort of a very weak version of Mulder from the X-files, in the sense that he's the only one seeing the 'truth' that's out there. The story starts off with him and it takes many many chapters before DragonMan arrives in the story. And even then he remains a minor character.
Another strange thing is that the publisher's summary hardly seems to fit the actual story at all.

I love scifi, I love superhero stories and I love the X-files. This story however, does not tick any of those boxes for me.

Narration was fine, I liked the deep voice of the narrator, although he does nothing to distinguish the voices of the different characters.

Don't Bother

I'll be honest, I did not finish this book. It's narration was the only thing that kept me listening for as long as I did. The narrator has a deep gravelly voice that fits well with the DragonMan character. But the narrator has trouble making different character voices distinct from each other.

For the first half of the book, the story was great. Then the halfway point comes and it goes down the tube.

All the characters were one dimensional and flat. They also follow every trope that you would expect them to, from the overly emotional woman who can't decide between hating the main character and loving him, to the FBI agent who is arrogant to the point that I hated her as a character. Then we have the paranoid scientist who thinks that the government and aliens are out to get him.

Even DragonMan is forgettable. In fact the story could easily be written so he isn't even there and it would all turn out just fine. He's supposed to be the main character of the story, but the only impact he has on the story is showing up just in the nick of time to save the day before flying off so fast no one thinks they saw anything other than a blur.
