About this listen

When Jen, the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever found, surfaces in Sherriff Walt Longmire's jurisdiction, it appears to be a windfall for the High Plains Dinosaur Museum - until Danny Lone Elk, the Cheyenne rancher on whose property the remains were discovered, turns up dead, floating face down in a turtle pond. With millions of dollars at stake, a number of groups step forward to claim her, including Danny's family, the tribe, and the federal government.

As Wyoming's acting deputy attorney and a cadre of FBI officers descend on the town, Walt is determined to find out who would benefit from Danny's death, enlisting old friends Lucian Connolly and Omar Rhoades - along with Dog and best friend Henry Standing Bear - to trawl the vast Lone Elk ranch, looking for answers to a 65-million-year-old cold case that's heating up fast.

Critic reviews

"George Guidall just gets better and better as the gruff, dependable Sheriff in the 11th Walt Longmire mystery.... Guidall is so genuine he's almost invisible. First-rate listening." (AudioFile)

Welcome back Walt.

Another great Longmire adventure. All the old characters are back. Walt finds himself caught between a government blowhard, a feisty young archeologist and the murder of an old Indian acquaintance. There are not many suspects and most are dismissed fairly easily, however just when Walt thinks he has a hold on the case, tragedy strikes. As much as he would like to protect and serve he is very distracted and feeling useless. This book is a turning point in the series, some very serious, old, unfinished business must be handled by Walt and Henry before it rears its ugly death head again.

George Guidall is still one of my favorite narrators and perfectly paired with Craige Johnsons wonderful characters.

Longmire may be Drying out...

Any additional comments?

I don't mean to dissuade you from listening to this book by my headline; it's just a fact that you can only get so much mileage out of a series and it's hero.
I find myself listening and thinking 'oh c'mon now, really?'...and that generally means the author is loosing me.
I still give it 4 stars because it is still miles above most of the crap out there! And I will still listen to as many as Craig Johnson want to write because no one can describe a landscape or feeling the way Johnson does.
By all means get this book, just don't expect as much out of it as we got out of the first 6 or 7.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No, Longmire books are asmooth drink of water on a hot day.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

I would listen to George Guidall read recipes.

Another winner and well worth the wait.

Walt Longmire is my hero. They've always been Cowboys. The science was exciting, the story was interesting, and I love the connections to prior books and characters.

Another winner!

I keep thinking Craig Johnson cannot possibly continue the quality that I have so enjoyed in his first few books, but he sure does! I found this one just as enjoyable and such a good and fun read!

The Best

I don't know that I have ever enjoyed a series of books more than I am enjoying the Longmire series. The writing and story lines are phenomenal.
George Guidall is the perfect reader to deliver the content. If there is a better audiobook reader out there I haven't found him or her yet.
Thank you Mr. Johnson. Keep em' coming!

Another Longmire winner!

While one part of the storyline made me very sad, this book - and the expert telling of it - had me totally entertained. There was a serious blooper about how Vic was injured 2 books back in A Serpent's Tooth but aside from irritating me it did not make a big difference. I thought this was a solid 4 or 4.5 on my enjoyment scale.
