Publisher's summary
The Emperor of the Forge, Sage of Stones - meaningless titles in the face of death.
After more than 700 years, he was expecting a peaceful and lonely end to his long life. That, however, was not meant to be. A single choice changed his fate, and his soul was forced to live again as a dungeon. Reborn but shackled to the heart of a mountain. This old soul has lost everything - and more.
In a world of gods and demons, there is no room for a weak newborn dungeon. Now with a new name, Smit and his creations will have to carve out their own place. The path may be long and dangerous, but with a soul hardier than stone and a will stronger than iron, will he be able to forge his own destiny?
“Debut author David Sanchez-Ponton knocks it out of the park with a brand-new Dungeon Core Novel that is sure to be up there with the likes of Divine Dungeon, Rogue Dungeon, and Bone Dungeon. Give this one a read - you won't regret it for a second!" (James A. Hunter, best-selling author of Rogue Dungeon, Bibliomancer, and Viridian Gate Online.)

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

When Kers is reborn as a dungeon core, he finds himself stuck in the most improbable of places: a cloud. High in the sky and far away from the usual solid resources, Kers must face the obvious question: How is a dungeon to build itself without wood or stone? Luckily, Kers has the sarcastic (and sometimes helpful) fairy Selena to help him get his bearings. Together, the pair delight in exploring Kers’ weird existence, creating novel mobs, and enticing adventures to plumb the lofty heights of his floors.

The decision to start a new life is never an easy one, but for Joe the transition was far from figurative. Story
Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people. An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation. But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by. Unless he does something about it.

Ryan doesn’t remember much about his life before becoming a dungeon core. Only that he had a bit of a disagreement with the church—something to do with a beheading? Now reborn, Ryan begins to arm his darkness dungeon with devious traps, bestial zombies and ill-named skeletal creations, without doing anything too evil. Well, mostly. Some adventurers just deserve a stalactite to the head.

Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a magic-filled, dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with everything changing is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

Pete is a simple man who enjoys a good drink amongst good friends. Not too much to ask, right? Now, he's trapped in a fantasy world far from home, stuck underground and inside the body of a smelly dwarf with fantastic facial hair. The worst part? The swill that the dwarves are falling all over themselves to drink. It's flat, it's watery, and it has the alcohol content of a rancid coconut. Can Pete save the dwarves from their own sour fate, or will he be forever doomed to plink his pickaxe away in hopes that he hits the motherlode?

Story
The life of a giant bee is a simple one. The life of a giant bee when her queen turns the entire hive into human-like apis to fend off an attack? That’s a good deal more complicated. Getting down from a 50-foot giant rose without wings while surviving the attacks of malevolent wasps is just a start. Surviving long enough to figure out what to do with her new life proves to be something of a challenge, but at least that much is understandable. Of course, that’s when she gets sucked into the tangled web of an ambitious demon lord who’s threatening to plunge the world into a war.

The usual result of a human taking a runaway semitruck head-on is a very sudden, very fast track to the pearly gates. But for one newly noncorporeal man, there's another option: become a dungeon. Feeling sorry for the desperate angel assigned to him, the man relents. Heck, if it doesn't work out, he can always chat with Saint Peter about it later. Next thing you know, he's a dungeon. Admittedly, a small run-down, somewhat unimpressive dungeon (more of a house, actually), but you gotta start somewhere, right?

It seems like a lifetime ago that Thedeim was a mortal man. After a fatal accident, he was transported to a strange realm to begin again as a living low-level dungeon. But he didn't stay small for long. With a powerful will, he built his dungeon self into a force to be reckoned with, full of minions, creepy crawlies, and a hedge maze to die for. Except Thedeim isn't a place where delvers die. He's a different, friendlier kind of dungeon, which suits both him and his many allies just fine. But being a nice dungeon means taking on some not-so-nice entities.

A good entry into dungeon core books
Slight? spoilers
With a mixed perspective of the core and several human characters (mostly an adventuring group and a select nobles) it provides a solid mix of fantasy and dungeon mechanics. the inclusion of monsters with actual personality makes battles tense with a sense of "who do i want to win?".

Stilted and awkward
I couldn't get through the book so it might improve later, but all of the speech and even some of the descriptions were just awkward. Nothing in the two hours I listened to flowed naturally. It's unfortunate because it seemed like the story was going to be interesting, but I just couldn't do it.

Great dungeon core book
Great story. Only real complaints I have are the info dump status at every chapter when nothing has changed and the end was a little abrupt. Kinda felt like there should have been more or something.

The world literally works like a video game.
It's literally written as if the characters had video game mechanics and abilities. They even open menus and pick new abilities when they level up. It's definitely a power fantasy for people who grew up playing video games. In this case it's based on dungeon builder style games with some thought put into how a world would work with self building dungeons in it.
It gets slightly awkward when the author describes some of the female characters but doesn't spend enough time on it to become painful. The prose in general is pretty clunky but the world is very mechanical like a video game so it works ok.
It's quite a bit of fun if you like the style but won't give you deep characters or a complicated story. It's all secondary to a fun concept and it does the fun well.

Need to listen
Great way to do a dungeon book. I really want the next book. Just need few details. Like you can skip to the next chapter when giving the stats. Also there was a reference of being hit like a truck in the book. I thought that was weird for a fantasy world.

Best Dungeon Building Story
The book is really good, to the point that the worst thing about it is that it ends. It has a good blend of world building and action and is clearly an excellent cornerstone to lay the foundation of a fun and exciting series. You are left with a sense of a complete origin/beginnings story while also anticipating the next book and the growth of the new characters, like I would imagine someone who never saw the original trilogy would feel watching Obi Wan deliver Luke to Owen Lars at the end of episode 3.

Great story, average narration
I love this story and have read it all already. the narrator did alright and the different voices and accents were good. Overall though, I found the voice actor to be robotic. Almost as if the text was run through a text to speech program. I think the part that stood out was the inflection of words as it often didn't flow.

Really Fun Book
I really enjoyed the story line. It had a mild bit of cultivation in it, but not much.

Great Story, but poor execution
The story, plot, and idea is great, love it.
but how it was written, on top of the narrator's pacing, makes it apparent that this was not given alot of attention. The writing works when it is describing the settings and functions of the world. But this doesn't work when the actual characters start talking. its all stinted, and sounds like someone who only reads human interations from a textbook. thats not how people talk. like this seem like some one who has written many manuals, textbooks, and instruction pamlets decided to write a story.
And the Narrator makes this even more apparent, as if he too came from a background narrating instructional and HR videos.
overall the story is a great, but needed another writer to give it more life.
the experience is, if "How's It Made", had a narritive story line.
