Publisher's summary

Edible Landscaping with a Permaculture Twist is a how-to manual for the budding gardener and experienced green thumb alike, full of creative and easy-to-follow designs that guide you to having your yard and eating it, too. Permaculture designer and avid grower Michael Judd takes the listener on a step-by-step process to transform a sea of grass into a flourishing edible landscape that pleases the eye, as well as the taste buds. With personality and humor, he translates the complexities of permaculture design into simple self-build projects, providing full details on the evolving design process, material identification, and costs. Chapters cover:

  • Herb Spirals
  • Food Forests
  • Raised-Bed Gardens
  • Earthen Ovens
  • Uncommon Fruits
  • Outdoor Mushroom Cultivation
  • And More....

The book is filled with practical designs that Judd has created and built over years of workshops, homesteading, and running an edible landscaping business. Though geared toward suburban gardeners starting from scratch, the book's designs can be easily grafted to the micro-habits of the urban landscape, scaled up to the acreage of homesteads, or adapted to already flourishing landscapes. Edible Landscaping with a Permaculture Twist is a tool to spark and inform the imagination of anyone with a desire to turn their landscape into a luscious and productive paradise.

Easy organic gardening at its best! There has never been a better time to grow your own food and build community. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us the cracks in our food and health systems with food shortages and increasing disease issues. Fortunately, gardening helps with both. The many health benefits that come along with gardening and growing your own food are limitless, but a few key ones are:

  • builds self-esteem
  • reduces stress
  • strengthens your heart

So fun to listen to one of my favorite books

This book has been one of my favorite books on permaculture and edible landscaping for a number of years. I'm excited that it's available now in audio form so I can go back and listen while driving, or while working outside. What I love about it is how tangible and approachable it is. Some other permaculture books can get really dense to get through and I feel that can hold us back from actually taking real action and starting something. This book makes it really simple to understand how to actually carry out these really practical and multi-functional techniques and designs. Sheet mulching and swales in particular. Oh yes, and grafting/tree care - sections I refer to often. Thanks Michael!

I can't wait to get started!

This book is packed full of useful information without overwhelming you with too much detail. I feel confident to get started on starting food forests on the little space I have and even for friends and family who have more land. I also feel confident I could one day use it for large scale use.

The information is not too wordy, clear, light hearted, and encouraging. I feel like even if you have very little gardening experience, you could use this book to take you to the next level. The permaculture highlighted in this book is accessible and easy to follow, while providing resources to dive deeper into each section. I plan on buying a few copies for friends and family hoping to inspire them as much as I have been, together creating beautiful edible landscapes!

Thank you Michael Judd for this little gem.
