Eli tænker meget over tiden. Han tænker på, at den kan gå langsomt og hurtigt, og at ti minutter kan føles som et helt år. Særligt når man venter på sine fødselsdagsgæster. Han tænker også på, at hans far er matros og rigtig langt væk, og at han ikke kan nå at komme hjem før Elis fødselsdag er slut. Heller ikke selvom Eli flytter knappenålen på globussen over til Danmark og hvisker til jorden, at den skal stoppe med at dreje. Tiden går videre, og gæsterne går hjem. Men måske er Elis far alligevel kommet lidt tættere på...
Elis verdensrum er en smuk og filosofisk bog om tidens gang set fra en seksårig drengs perspektiv.
