About this listen

When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

An Interesting Take

I loved the different path taken where the dead are just the dead in this story. It added another layer of struggles and emotions that the surviving individuals had to cope with. The end romance kind of caught me off guard, and I would've been satisfied without it being there at all. I'm interested to see where future books will take this story.

Excellent

I was starting to lose hope for the post apocalyptic genre, every story line seemed to be a regurgitation of the last… not with this one! I will be listening to the next in the series. Great character development, and authentic knowledge of combat and tactics. Unlike others that I have read containing a tinge of unrealistic skill sets and expectations of the protagonist, Anderson does a great job of developing the situation in a way that does cause you to feel like your reading some salty veterans manifesto of a pipe dream.

Pleasant Surprise

Post apocalypse isn't typically my thing but if Jay Snyder is reading I'm down for a listen. It was a story with interesting characters most of whom are trying to do what's right. I'm glad I spent the credit and might get the next in the series soon.

Enjoyable read

Kept me interested. A couple of pats were vaguely predictable but overall well worth reading.
