Review - Depends on Reader

Arviso starts out the book with a warning that you should not continue reading if you are not saved. Kind of an odd statement for a book on the Epistle of James, which is often considered the most deeds oriented writing of the new testaments. At the end of the book you learn that Arviso named his son James, so his love and appreciation for James is certainly deep. Anyway, having already paid $15.95 to download, I continued to listen regardless of my beliefs. I am certainly not an expert on the scriptures. However, the book is beautifully written with both scholarly and faith oriented insights into the subject matter. It was enjoyable and insightful. The book is about 50% on James and about 50% of general apologetics. So, if you are a believer, the book will be a great mix of biblical education and faith. If your approach is more scholarly, you will tire of the apologetics and the lack of meaningful discussion on the more intriguing elements of the Epistle (deeds vs faith). So recommend for believers and not so much for non-believers (take Arviso’s advice and skip it).

Encouraging and Uplifting!

Author Aviso did his research when writing this book. Not only did he take me through the book of James, he provided me with additional scripture outside of James to give more breadth and depth of what the Epistle was conveying. His daily devotional structure made it a journey versus a quick read, and the community he has created to compliment this study provided needed accountability to grow in my relationship with Christ. I appreciated the daily prayers and action points - definitely fed my desire for spiritual growth.
I am looking forward to the next book!
