Como en todos o casi todos los países, en el nuestro existen desde antiguo partidos, grupos y movimientos cuyo propósito ha sido la demolición del régimen constitucional vigente. Sin embargo, ninguno había logrado la fuerza electoral o política suficiente para ponerlo en verdadero riesgo. La existencia de grandes partidos con fuerte respaldo electoral y holgada mayoría parlamentaria había bastado para conjurar estas amenazas. La tragedia de nuestros días es que a estos desafíos, encarnados por el independentismo y por el populismo de extrema izquierda, vino a sumarse un nuevo actor, el Partido Socialista de nuevo cuño, al que hoy con más propiedad algunos llaman sanchismo: unos buscan la secesión de Cataluña y el País Vasco; otros ansían la superación del actual modelo constitucional y su sustitución por otro de corte populista; y los últimos ambicionan, simplemente, mantenerse en el poder, y para ello se apoyan en los anteriores a costa de ceder a sus exigencias. Sin embargo, las terrazas están abarrotadas, las playas se llenan en vacaciones, la vida sigue… Sí, es cierto que el Gobierno a lo mejor se pasa, piensan algunos, pero esos alarmismos son exagerados y, además, todos los partidos hacen lo mismo cuando llegan al poder. Estos ciudadanos despreocupados, los que "pasan de la política", pueden creer que todo esto no les afecta. Pero sí les afecta. No es lo mismo vivir en Venezuela que en Holanda, y, si no, preguntemos a cualquier ciudadano en cuál de los dos países preferiría vivir. Los autores de este libro desgranan con estilo riguroso y ameno la compleja coyuntura a la que se enfrenta España y postulan, entre otros, el reforzamiento de las instituciones del Estado y su garantía de neutralidad, limpiar la imagen del Parlamento, convertido en mera correa de transmisión del Gobierno, y el cierre del modelo territorial, no suficientemente definido en el reparto de competencias. El resultado es una obra imprescindible para la comprensión del panorama actual y una propuesta bien fundada de cómo superarlo.
