Publisher's summary

The fourth book in Joanna Schaffhausen's heart-pounding Ellery Hathaway mystery series, Every Waking Hour....

After surviving a serial killer’s abduction as a young teenager, Ellery Hathaway is finally attempting a normal life. She has a new job as a rookie Boston detective and a fledgling relationship with Reed Markham, the FBI agent who rescued her years ago. But when a 12-year-old girl disappears on Ellery’s watch, the troubling case opens deep wounds that never fully healed.

Chloe Lockhart walked away from a busy street fair and vanished into the crowd. Maybe she was fleeing the suffocating surveillance her parents put on her from the time she was born, or maybe the evil from her parents’ past finally caught up to her. For Chloe, as Ellery learns, is not the first child Teresa Lockhart has lost.

Ellery knows what it’s like to have the past stalk you, to hold your breath around every corner. Sending one kidnapped girl to find another could be Chloe’s only hope or an unmitigated disaster that dooms them both. Ellery must untangle the labyrinth of secrets inside the Lockhart household - secrets that have already murdered one child. Each second that ticks by reminds her of her own lost hours, how close she came to death, and how near it still remains.

I love Joanna Schaffhausen's writing

This story is gripping and keeps you reading, or morning it you have the audio.

I listened to the audio and the narrators did a good job or bringing the characters to life.

Read this series and you won't be bored or disappointed!

Good story, I'd recommend

I enjoyed this next story in the series. I'd recommend it to friends and well at the first books. I also liked the narrator.

Horrible narration

I love this series but I wish they would have kept the same narrator. I couldn’t stay focused because the narrators were dull.

Bring back the previous narrator

The new woman narrator is terrible. I was so looking forward to this book but am finding the narration excruciating.

WHY

Why, why, why change the narrator? The added male is fine, but the voice of Ellery doesn’t fit at all and makes an awesome story line painful to continue listening to.

Narrator Change

Changing a narrator mid series is horrible. The new narrator is robotic and makes Ellery sound like a teenage girl. The series is so good, and it deserves more!

Terrible narration on this book

Like others, I really hated the narrator - it was juvenile and flat. The first three books were so great (the narration was wonderful). I will be returning this title and buying the book so I can finish it without listening to nails on a chalkboard.

Could not stand the new narrators!

Even though I enjoy the author’s work, the narration was so poor I could barely make it to the end of the book. I will not listen to the next one. Bring back the old narrator. The new ones will kill this author’s books.

I love this series and can't wait for more!!

I was surprised by the change in narration and I never really like that in a series but that's my issue lol. I like this series because it's fast-paced and not easy to figure out what's going to happen. I like it that one of the heroes of the story is totally messed up just like real people are and I really love the story lines and the back stories. Keep the books coming!!

The narrator voice

I wish they could have kept the same narrator or find someone close enough. This narrator sounds like a bratty teenager, and just awful. I’ll have to read to the last 2 books bc she is just that bad.
