Publisher's summary

From the bestselling author of Whisper Me This comes a haunting and lyrical novel about the promises we make and the forgiveness we need when we break them.

One tragic twist of fate destroyed Braden Healey’s hands, his musical career, and his family. Now, unable to play, adrift in an alcoholic daze, and with only fragmented memories of his past, Braden wants desperately to escape the darkness of the last eleven years.

When his ex-wife and son are killed in a car accident, Braden returns home, hoping to forge a relationship with his troubled seventeen-year-old daughter, Allie. But how can he hope to rescue her from the curse that seems to shadow his family?

Ophelia “Phee” MacPhee, granddaughter of the eccentric old man who sold Braden his cello, believes the curse is real. She swore an oath to her dying grandfather that she would ensure Braden plays the cello as long as he lives. But he can’t play, and as the shadows deepen and Phee finds herself falling for Braden, she’ll do anything to save him. It will take a miracle of forgiveness and love to bring all three of them back to the healing power of music.

Critic reviews

"Hopeful at its heart and sincere to its core, Everything You Are is a testament to the power of connection." --Booklist

"Everything You Are is a fresh, imaginative story about the power of dreams and our hunger to be who we really are. Kerry Anne King orchestrates a fluid, emotional, and wholly original tale of families, secrets, and the power of our gifts to free us. I loved every magical word." --Barbara O'Neal, author of The Art of Inheriting Secrets

"Real and raw, King's Everything You Are is a gorgeous tale of life told between those lines too often blurred. Love and sorrow, regret and hope are woven into every aspect of the story by music - not just any music, but the magical kind that leaves both creator and listener, for better or worse, irrevocably changed." --Terri-Lynne DeFino, author of The Bar Harbor Retirement Home for Famous Writers (And Their Muses)

Enjoyed this book!

Although I enjoyed the book overall, the narration was particularly good. For me, this really added to the experience. I connected with the characters and story perhaps because I also have a music background so I can appreciate the passion. I feel the story was well written and engaging. I would recommend this book.

Pleasantly Surprised

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I seen it on the Prime First Reads offerings and grabbed a different one, but this went on my wish list I grabbed it on KU and was able to listen for free.

I listened in one day, I really enjoyed getting lost in all the things. There was so much going on but the narrator did amazing with differentiating. Love, loss, angst, alcoholism, ptsd, amnesia. This book was very well done. It was a bit predictable but I did not see the end coming. Whew. Great job!

Couldn’t stop listening!

This is a tale of addiction and the trials you face when you try to deny who you really are; this dark tale will grab you by your heart strings and never let go. I also absolutely loved every character. Each one broken but oh so beautiful. And Damron does an amazing job bringing these characters and this tale to life. Highly recommend! I literally listen to it in one day.

Cello pronouns

Fairly good story (although the "curse" part seemed pretty far-fetched and some of the female protagonist's behaviors were too intrusive and unprincipled to keep me connected with her. Main criticism though is the VERY annoying anthropomorphzing of the cello! I mean, for Pete's sake, DON'T use the pronouns "she" and "her" to reference an exquisite musical instrument. Rather than creating more sentiment toward it, that actually made me distance from it! Way over the top!

Not a bad book

The story was not the best, but the characters are well developed well I enjoyed them. I think what really made this audiobook book for me was the performance of the narrator he did a great job.
