Publisher's summary
Cruella De Vil is the perfect villain: stylish, witty, relentless...and possibly cursed. From her lonely childhood, to her iconic fashion choices, to that fateful car crash (you know the one), Cruella tells all in this marvelous memoir of a woman doomed. Even the cruelest villains have best friends, true loves, and daring dreams. Now it's Cruella's turn to share hers.
This latest novel by the author of the wildly popular and darkly fascinating Villains series brings listeners a tale told by the Evil Thing herself - a tale of the complicated bonds of female friendship, of mothers and daughters, and of burning, destructive desire. After all, nothing is as simple as black and white.

Amazing Backstory for a true villain
****Narration***FIRST OF ALL, to have the one of the voices of Cruella narrate this is AMAZING in itself. This made me already feel like Cruella was telling me the story herself which made me all ready love this book.
****Story*** I love the first person POV and the fact that she is telling us her story and past. I absolutely love how descriptive she is as well. I like how the story of the fairy lands was intertwined by making it a story book that was given to her by her father. from the beginning of the book, you start noticing that even Cruella is loved by her father, the maids, and even Anita; its not enough because her mother is the only one who is strives to impress. She is so wrapped in the thought that she needs to impress her mom that even in her story telling, she doesn't see the obvious signs that mom is self-centered. Even when Cruella's father dies, Mom clearly shows her greed and disappears by going on a trip which leaves Cruella to think that mom is mad at her. This annoyed me so much which is making me take a while to finish the book.
I loved seeing that Anita and Cruella's backstory was lovely because she let Cruella be a child and be her true-self if she wanted.
Slowly but surely, you start seeing Cruella change the more that she tries to be like her mom. She slowly started distancing herself from people who she was close with. Whether it was the servants or Anita. She didn't want to be "treated like a child" and even when people are telling her exactly how her mother treats her. Her blinded love for her mother has made sever ties with multiple people.
Every time that Cruella gets a little moment to enjoy life, her mom comes around and it is a whirlwind which makes Cruella go back to her old ways. Also I was happy that she had a moment of romance with Jack and you start seeing her spiral to hating dogs just because her puppy peed on her fur coat (That her mom bought).
Her hate with Anita started with her turning down her to traveling the world with her. But Anita wanted to be her own person.
Once you get to chapter 11, it starts the storyline of the movie "101 Dalmatian" but with a little change that she got married which we never saw in the movie.
It also didn't surprise me that the story ended with her being complete consumed by trying to do what she could to get her months love to the point of lunacy.

Excellent performance by reader!!
I have read all of the books in this series and haven’t been disappointed yet. (Well, with the exception of Ursula’s story becoming something else entirely, and losing focus of her.) I will say that you could pick this one up without reading the others at all and not know you were missing anything. This story was truly about Cruella. Told from her POV instead of third person, you really get an idea of how her mind was working… which is what this book is all about. I do wish they would have elaborated on the cursed jewelry, and told a little bit more about her state of mind during/after the heist of the puppies. That part felt a little rushed, and not as descriptive as the rest of her story. But, those are my only complaints. The writer did an amazing job of creating a back story and purpose to Cruella. I found myself feeling compassion, and then disappointment at every turn. She really is a true villain!! You want to love her, and yet she makes it so easy to hate her at the same time. Which also shows you Anita’s mind set through it all. Susanne Blakeslee WAS Cruella. Her voice was so much like the Disney cartoon, it was beyond easy to picture that version of her. Yet, she was also able to capture the voices of the other characters wonderfully as well. You could tell who was who while in the middle of a dialogue very easily. All in all it was a wonderful book, and I will certainly be recommending it!
