Publisher's summary

Roughgarden rejects both junk science based on spurious metaphors and junk religion based on spurious theology. In their place, she offers an inspiring accommodation between thoughtful science and compassionate religion.

Critic reviews

"[R]eaders who see a role for both evolution and divine creation will appreciate Roughgarden's attempt to stake out a common ground that does not feel like a compromise." ( Publishers Weekly)

Thoughtful

Dr. Roughgarden is an evolutionary biologist at Stanford and a practicing Episcopalian. In this book she attempts to reconcile her field of study with the Biblical record as presented in the King James version of the Canon. Her strength is her ability to make evolutionary biology clear to the lay (pardon the pun) reader. Her weakness is that she is not a Biblical scholar, per se, but she nonetheless provides needed insights into current public evolution/creationism debates. Her perspectives on creationism and intelligent design or well taken. This is a well written little book which should be widely read for perspective if not agreement. If you have an interest in the topic, take time to listen. The author reads her own work very well.
