About this listen

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of only carrying opinions for which you have strong supporting facts.

When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and a man who can make data sing, Hans Rosling, together with his two long-time collaborators Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens, and reveals the 10 instincts that distort our perspective.

It turns out that the world, for all its imperfections, is in a much better state than we might think. But when we worry about everything all the time instead of embracing a worldview based on facts, we can lose our ability to focus on the things that threaten us most.

Inspiring and revelatory, filled with lively anecdotes and moving stories, Factfulness is an urgent and essential book that will change the way you see the world.

Great book but audio quality is sub-par

Entertaining and informative, very good narrator. Audio quality is weirdly lower than average, but still ok

Obligatory book for Social Science Students

I finished in about one week. Simply amazing, one of the bests books I've seen.

Statists can be so enlightening

Amazing statistical information provided to ordinary (and so called highly educated) people on issues so important to all if us (especially us living in level 3 and 4) to help change the growing new-world problems. Why do so many people in more wealthy homes and countries have ever increasing psychological problems when in general the world is actually getting better not worse. correctly collecting data and interpriting it is true knowledge and power. Thank you Hans and RIP.

Great book for widening your world view

This book should be mandatory reading/listening for all. The world is not perfect, but is slowly getting better in many ways.

Fantastic book a clear eye opener on deception

It really proves we know the world systematically wrong. The more we follow news the more wrong we learn. Not as an accusation to media, just factfulness. Interestingly Hans himself believes in "global warming" caused by man. yet agrees the facts do not tell that.

Why did I wait so long?

I've been a long fan of Hans, and it saddened me deeply when he passed away. And I have waited with this book until I felt ready. Perhaps I shouldn't have.

This book is not a through-and-through easy read. While I was already aware of most of the information in this book from Hans' papers and lectures, it still challenged some of my beliefs and biases. It's rarely a pleasant thing, but as Hans, Ola and Anna shows us in this book, it's necessary for us to challenge our beliefs, lest we fall prey to ignorance.

I hope Ola and Anna can carry the torch in this vein in the future. It's important work in this age of binary thinking and identity politics.
